Namit Das Spills Some Beans About His Personal Life And Reveals Some Fun Secrets In This Exclusive Interview On Unboxed With ZEE5

Namit Das is a brilliant and talented actor who has displayed the prowess of his acting in movies, shows, and plays. Besides being a highly talented actor, he is a fun person and has shared really interesting experiences about himself in this exclusive interview. He has starred in the ZEE5 Original show Mafia and is now soon going to star in the film Aafat-e-Ishq. Read on to know what he shared about his life and his experience working in Aafat-e-Ishq.

Are you a morning person or a night person?

Namit Das had an answer to this that we all might relate to. He said, “ I am a night person pretending to be a morning person. That is so because I’ve always wanted to be a morning person and wake up early but I can’t help myself in loving the night. I like to be awake and read and listen to music.”

Favourite song for your day to get you into the groove?

Namit Das shared that his favourite song is, ‘Na tum humein jaano, na hum tumhen jaane’ sung by Hemant Kumar, in the movie Baat Ek Raat Ki.

Tea or Coffee?

The actor said that he prefers none of the two. He said that he likes to have gooseberry juice (amlaprash) in the morning and his favourite beverage is orange juice.

Gym or yoga?

He said that he prefers none of these, either. Namit Das prefers an outdoor run or a jog.

What was the last thing that you bought under Rs 100?

“A gullak. I love keeping gullaks for myself and collecting change in coins, which I don’t know if I’ll ever use. It’s some sort of happiness. I love collecting coins in a gullak and shaking it to hear the sound,” said Namit Das.

Love or money?

Namit Das funnily answered that he would combine both and say that he ‘loves money’.

Last time you used public transport?

He said that two months back he had travelled by an autorickshaw. He also shared that some time back he and his friend had travelled in the Mumbai local train from Andheri to Churchgate, and back. “ I love the way the Mumbai local trains are maintained and run,” Namit Das said.

One thing you never leave home without?

The actor shared that he never leaves his home without his air-pods.

Ever used your star status to get away?

He said that he does use it sometimes at the airport when he has extra luggage to carry.

What was the last lie that you said?

Namit Das shared that he is not a good liar. He said, “When I lie, my eyes become very shifty and the other person comes to know that I am lying. So I have given up on lying. Also, there was a time when I have had sleepless nights because of lying. My conscience bites me. That is also why I gave up lying.”

One thing that makes you angry?

About this, Namit said, “Sometimes people use language in convenient ways to convince you that they are right. It pisses me off because they are using words for manipulation, navigating their way around you.”

One bad habit of yours that no one knows about?

The actor shared that his bad habits are that he loves drinking and that he gets up really late in the morning while telling people that he gets up early.

What is your cheat meal like?

Namit Das said that he loves the McChicken burger with cheese from McDonald’s. He said that when he is on a road trip, he stops at a McDonald’s to get a burger and at times, a soft drink too.

Favourite superhero?

He said that his favourite superhero is Spiderman because he loves the way Peter Parker delivers the famous line – ‘With great power comes great responsibility.’

What is your favourite holiday destination?

Namit Das answered that his favourite holiday destinations are the Maldives and San Francisco.

What is your idea of a perfect date?

He said that his ideal date would be by the seaside, with candles lit and some good Italian food, with the person he loves, that is, his wife Shruti Vyas.

What is the most romantic thing Shruti has done for you?

Namit shared a very nice story about this question. He said, “This is from when we had just started dating. Shruti has prepared a video with a Handycam since those were old times, smartphones were not available. I was turning 25 and she said that I needed to see interviews of everyone I know. And she interviewed about 40 people and edited the video. And it was very difficult in those days with technology not so advanced. She went to a studio and edited and added music and made it really sweet. It is the sweetest thing that she has done. I watch it on every birthday. It makes me feel good about myself.”

In a relationship, I will never _?

“Dishonour,” said Namit Das.

Love according to you is _?

“Giving the other person space and freedom,” he said.

Best comment you have received on social media?

He shared a funny story about this. Namit said, “It is one of the funniest things I have read till now is. The comment was on a photo I had posted with a friend, and someone had commented ‘langoor ke saath angoor’ and I just found it very hilarious, I still laugh at it sometimes.” He even broke into laughter while talking about it.

And what was the worst comment?

Namit also burst into laughter while answering this question. He said that it was on a video of him dancing in a silly way. Someone had commented on it, asking ‘how tight his underwear was while dancing’. Namit burst out laughing and said that he had no answer to that. He said that the more toxic people get, the more he finds it humorous.

Anant – Full of experiences,” said Namit.

A favourite quote you live by?

“An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind,” the actor shared.

If not an actor, what would you be?

Namit said that he would either be a historian or an archaeologist. He said that he is really passionate about history and where we come from. “I have been more interested in it since the last 3-4 years. Indian history in general fascinates me. I make it a point to visit historic places of the place I am shooting in. I think it’s important to study history because we are all connected to it,” he said.

A celeb you would want to get stuck on an island with?

He said that he would like to be stuck only with his wife, Shruti Vyas.

The weirdest thing that you last searched on Google?

He said that since he is fascinated by history, he had searched about how human beings started wearing clothes and where the idea came from. He also read about how fashion came about and became a part of our lives.

The strangest rumour you have heard about yourself?

Namit Das said that people wonder if he and Vir Das are brothers. He also shared that once a random person from Pune had called him up and asked him if he was Vir Das’ brother.

Describe yourself in three words

‘Ambivert, happy, and flowing,’ are the three words that Namit said he would use to describe himself.

Texting or talking?

“Talking, any day. There’s a joke I share with friends that whenever I get into a WhatsApp conversation, after five minutes, they know that they are going to get a call from me because I get tired of texting,” Namit Das shared.

Beer or wine?

He said that he prefers wine.

Food or sex?

“Good food with good sex,” Namit said.

Mafia or Aafat-e-Ishq?

“Let’s bring on Aafat in 2021, while not forgetting Mafia,” the actor said.

One Aafat-e-Ishq co-star you would want to work with again?

Namit Das said that he would like to work with all of them. He also said that he has a soft corner for Deepak Dobriyal and he really likes the way he functions, so he would like to work with Deepak Dobriyal again. Namit said that he would also love to work with Neha Sharma again.

Favourite character from Aafat-e-Ishq apart from yours?

He said that his favourite character is Neha Sharma’s Lallo.

What was your initial reaction when you read the script of Aafat-e-Ishq?

“I was briefly told that it is an adaptation but was sure I wanted to do this when I first read the script. I said yes mainly for my character, Atmaram and because it was an adventure that I wanted to be a part of,” he said.

Your favourite dialogue from Aafat-e-Ishq?

Namit Das said that not dialogues but there are some of his dance moves from the film that he really loves.

Like Aafat-e-Ishq, will you kill for love?

“I won’t kill for anything,” Namit said.

What was your most challenging scene to shoot in Aafat-e-Ishq?

Namit shared that only after watching the film we would realise that there are certain scenes which the character Atmaram can not be ‘written’ for. It was hence, tough for Namit to place himself in the character for those scenes and also because Atmaram is very physical in nature.

How did you prepare for the role of Atmaram in Aafat-e-Ishq?

Namit said that he read the script a lot and was really listening to the other actors in their scenes, to prepare for his role.

3 reasons to watch Aafat-e-Ishq?

The three reasons that the actor gave are – Atmaram’s dance moves, Atmaram’s songs, and the unique cast that has come together to create this script. “Neha, Deepak, Ila Arun Ji, Amit Sial, all are people from very different worlds who have been brought in for this,” he said, elaborating the last reason.

You started your acting journey with Zee TV’s show Pancham. So how has the experience shaped you?

“Zee is a big platform and has become bigger with the years. Many channels exist under its umbrella and to be working with Zee is a privilege. It is one of the biggest enterprises in the entertainment industry. They have done really innovative things and taken risks. Be it reality shows, drama, news channels, everything exists under this umbrella. And I feel great that my journey as an artist started with Zee. After 18 years, people still remember the show Pancham and approach me to talk about it. I feel excited each time to be a part of something that Zee has commissioned,” Namit Das said.
