Hina Khan Spills Beans On Her Role In UNLOCK; Chemistry With Kushal Tandon And Much More

UNLOCK: The Haunted App is a ZEE5 original film which stars Hina Khan and Kushal Tandon in lead roles. The film is bankrolled by Krasnaya Corporation LLP and Horse Films LLP and directed by Debatma Mandal. Apart from Hina and Kushal, Rishabh Sinha and Aditi Arya play pivotal roles. The storyline of UNLOCK revolves around Suhani and Amar who are madly in love with each other. But, Suhani gets to know that her roommate Riddhi is eyeing her boyfriend. She then downloads an app which grants her darkest wishes.

In an exclusive interview with us, the gorgeous actress spilled the beans on her role in the movie, her chemistry with Kushal, her fitness regime and much more. In a tête-à-tête conversation, Hina revealed that her co-star Kushal would call her teacher in a friendly way. Take a look at what all she had to say:

Tell us something about your character in UNLOCK?

I play the character of Suhani, a girl who is a bit under-confident in life because she has never been able to achieve whatever she has wanted to. She fell in love which was taken away from her and many other things of the same sort, after which she discovers the ‘UNLOCK’ app and its features and mainly how it can help her get the things she wants! Post that, her journey begins focusing on all that the app makes her do to grant her wishes.

What was the most memorable part of the film?

I think the most memorable part of shooting the film would be us shooting at real locations for most of it, and not sets. That was a highlight because we got to shoot at some amazing locations in and around Mumbai, in turn giving the film a natural touch to it.

In the film, you download the app to keep an eye on Amar, in real life what will you do in love?

In real life, the only mantra that works for me in love is trust, honesty and loyalty. If you are trustworthy and honest in your relationship the loyalty always stays!

Hacked, UNLOCK, you have played amazing characters, which is your favourite role?

I think both these characters are special to me. Both of them introduced me to a genre I had never explored before and gave me so much to learn and enhance from it. Both the roles I portrayed helped me grow in so many ways, helping me work better on my acting nuances and even helping me familiarize myself with this diverse genre of content.

During the lockdown, you managed to keep your fans entertained and a few days back you went to dub for UNLOCK how was the experience?

Yes, there was a bit of dubbing left for the film, for which I had to step out of the house. It was a bit scary and unnerving, but I ensured that I took all the precautionary measures and tried not to think too much about it because that is what causes fear.

How did you manage shooting, what was it like?

Shooting for UNLOCK was a very taxing experience. A lot of the scenes involved not so appealing scenarios, which did take a toll on me. I honestly didn’t sleep too well throughout the shoot due to shooting such hard-hitting and heavy sequences.

During the quarantine and lockdown, what did you do to stay positive?

Staying calm and positive through this quarantine has been tough, but I have practised gratitude throughout for being able to access so many things which others out there might not have, and that has kept me going strong through this phase.

Reasons to watch unlock: the haunted app and why it is different from other horror films?

The theme of UNLOCK focuses on the dark side of the web world. While we have seen a lot of this genre as an essential part of the content in the west, this is the very first time such a concept is being explored in the Indian OTT space. So it is different from other concepts in the same space, and something which has never been explored here before.

Do you miss shooting?

Yes, I am missing shooting, being on set, dressing up for promotional activities and all the buzz which has unfortunately come to a standstill at the moment! So all I can do is hope for things to settle down and restart soon again.

Working out is an integral part of my daily routine. It helps uplift my mood and keeps me sane, fit and healthy especially during these tough times. So I would suggest the same to others as well, to regularly exercise because it is the best form of rejuvenation for your mind and body at the moment.

Kushal revealed that throughout the shoot he called you ‘teacher’ and even appreciated the way you work?

Yes, Kushal would call me ‘Teacher’ on set in a fun and friendly way, because I was always correcting him and teaching him things on my own. He always took that in good stride and it was great fun working with him on UNLOCK.
