In 2008, a 14-year-old girl Aarushi Talwar was found dead in her house in Noida. A couple of days after her death, the Talwars’ domestic help Hemraj was found similarly murdered. After an unsuccessful police investigation, the CBI court convicted Aarushi’s parents, Rajesh and Nupur Talwar, for murder and hiding evidence for the double murders of Aarushi and Hemraj.
With multiple investigation teams and a series of different shreds of evidence, the court was presented with different scenarios which created various complications in the case. However, after spending four years in Tihar Jail, Aarushi’s parents were acquitted after no strong evidence was found against them. The mystery still remains unsolved.
Accused in two murder and rape cases and multiple molestation cases across Navi Mumbai and Thane, a 34-year-old Rehan was arrested by Mumbai Police. However, in further court proceedings and investigations, it was revealed that the accused may be suffering from trauma and loneliness.
According to doctors, Rehan turned into a psychopath and a pervert after his father was robbed and murdered in Lucknow. His behaviour showed signs of a split personality disorder.
A case that united the whole of India in seeking justice for Jessica Lal, who was shot dead for refusing to serve alcohol to Union minister Venod Sharma’s son Siddharth Vashisht aka Manu Sharma at a bar in Delhi. The court case went on for a long time finding no resolution.
However, due to the media’s attention, justice was finally served and Manu Sharma was given life imprisonment. But the recent update on the case states that Manu was freed from prison for “satisfactory jail conduct”.
The case resulted in a committee led by retired Supreme Court chief justice J.S. Verma who was constituted to suggest reforms in the criminal law. After various investigations and proceedings, the case finally came to a conclusion after outrage from the people all around the nation which included protests in different states of India.
All six accused were found guilty by a fast track court. One of them was a juvenile and one died in custody, while the rest four of them were sentenced to death. The long-ranging case redefined various laws and shook the legal system of India.
Sheena Bora’s murder took the court to various other directions, one including the shady financial dealings of Indrani Mukerjea and her husband Peter Mukerjea. Indrani was arrested for deliberately plotting Sheena’s murder. The biggest surprise that came to light in court was that Mukerjea had never admitted to having two children and even claimed Sheena was her sister.Â
Sunanda Pushkar’s Death Mystery
Sunanda Pushkar, wife of a former Indian diplomat and politician Shashi Tharoor was killed in a hotel room in Delhi. Reportedly, her husband Shashi discovered her body, assuming that she was asleep. It was only when Pushkar did not wake up that he informed the police of her death. Various reports that came up in courts claimed injury marks, followed by the death of drug overdose. The mystery still remains to get a conclusion.
