Indian Pro Music League Opening Ceremony: From Salman Khan’s Funny Moments To Govinda’s Performance, Highlights From The Grand Event

The grandest and most awaited singing reality show of India has begun! The opening ceremony of the Indian Pro Music League premiered on the evening of February 26 on Zee TV. Just like its name, the opening ceremony of the show was just as magnificent and cool. The stage was elaborate and the ceremony was fun and lively. Bollywood star Salman Khan, who is the ambassador of the IPML, kick-started the opening ceremony. He made his entrance with his song, Swag Se Karenge Sabka Swagat from Tiger Zinda Hai. He then played a huge nagada on the stage, marking the beginning of IPML. After his brief performance, all the mascots from all teams joined him on the stage and did the small signature step of Music Ooncha Rahe Hamara.

The hosts of the show, Karan Wahi and Waluscha De Sousa then entered the stage and began their conductance of the show. Salman Khan also had fun moments with the singer Shaan, who is one of the captains of the team Bengal Tigers. The mascot of Bengal Tigers, Govinda, also shook a leg with Salman Khan, after the latter called him with all excitement, referring to him as ‘Partner’ as a reference to their movie. Salman Khan also had some fun moments with singer Kailash Kher, who is one of the captains of the team Mumbai Warriors.

Hosts Karan Wahi and Waluscha De Sousa then gave a brief about the rules of the league – there will be a super league, where all the six teams will compete with each other and then there will be league matches, where a combination of two teams will go against one another. Post this, the team introductions with their performances began. First came the team Punjab Lions. The team mascot, Bobby Deol, entered the stage, sitting on a cool bike, and introduced the prowess of his team.

Mika Singh, one of the captains of the show, made a grand entry and began with a few lines of the song ‘Damadam Mast Kalandar’. The second captain, Asees Kaur came next, singing her song Ankh Lad Jaave. Finally came Rupali Jagga, the third member of the team, who sang Ranjha Ranjha from the movie Raavan. Both the women then came and performed on Dila De Ghar Chandigarh Mein, while dancers gave their lovely performances on its beats.

After this, their mascot, Bobby Deol performed a dance on his song Allah Duhai from Race 3. The Punjab Lions performance ended with Mika Singh performing his signature song Jhumme Ki Raat, from Kick. In the end, all three singers performed the final lines of the song, while Bobby Deol also joined them with his dance moves.

After their performance, Karan and Waluscha had fun moments with the team members, while the Punjab Lions also shared their fun stories. They also talked about how they will be tough competitors to the other five teams. Following this, the owner of the Punjab Lions – director of the company We Safe, Rakhi Oswal – also joined the stage and talked a bit about the team.

Singer Mika Singh and Salman Khan then shared a little story about how the tracks of the film Kick were decided and how Mika Singh got to sing the track Jhumme Ki Raat. The two then sang the song together on the stage. Composer Sajid Khan, who is one of the captains of UP Dabbangs, also joined the stage and talked about his experience working with Salman Khan. Throughout the show, Salman Khan kept sharing his little fun stories.

Next came the team Mumbai Warriors, to show their performance. Singer Kailash Kher, one of the captains, kick-started the performance with his song from Bahubali 2 – Jai Jai Kaara. The dancers on the stage showed brilliant formations for this song. Next came Shilpa Rao, the second captain, and sang her song Ghungroo Toot Gaye from the film War. Their third team member, Purva Mantri followed up with her performance of Halla Machaaye Re.

The three singers then sang the theme of Tanhaji while the dancers gave a lovely performance, and gave a royal entrance to their mascots – Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D’souza Deshmukh. The team then talked about their preparations and also performed on the Marathi song Jhingaat and Khuda Jaane. The owners of Neelkamal, who own the Mumbai Warriors team, entered the stage and talked about their team.

Suresh Raina, the mascot of UP Dabbangs, joined the stage with Salman Khan, Riteish Deshmukh, Rajkummar Rao, Bobby Deol and played a little game.

Next came the team Gujarat Rockers, where Rajkummar Rao began with an introduction to his team. First came their captain Javed Ali, who performed on his iconic song Hai Guzaarish from Ghajini. Then followed their member Hemant Brijwasi, who performed on the song Baaje Dhol from the movie Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. And last came singer Bhoomi Trivedi with her song Udi Udi Jaaye from Raees. All three singers later lent their voices for another exciting performance. Their mascot, Rajkummar Rao made a fun appearance, playing a few steps of garba.

Talking about their preparations for the league and challenging other teams, Rajkummar Rao quoted his character from the film Bareilly Ki Barfi, “Suno be! Aaj ke baad IPML trophy ki baat ki na, toh aisi laat maarenge, kule pe dimple nikaal denge tumhaare!”

Shubh Aggrawal, the representative of Divya Bhaskar, the owner of Gujarat Rockers, then joined the team on the stage and talked about the team and her connection with it.

Fourth, came the team Delhi Jammers. Their performance began with captain Neha Bhasin singing her iconic song, Assalam-e-Ishqum from Gunday. Next came Ankush Bhardwaj who performed on Khali Bali Ho Gaya Hai Dil from Padmaavat. Finally came their second captain Sajid Khan, who sang his composition Mera Hi Jalwa, from Wanted. All of them then performed on that song.

After the team members talked about their team, Bill Bradford, the representative of their owner company Smule, gave a video message, cheering the team. This was followed by the team’s mascots, the Kapoor siblings – Shraddha Kapoor and Siddhanth Kapoor – giving a performance on the Delhi 6 theme.

After their performance, Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao played charades with their teams, creating a lot of fun on the stage.

Further, singers Shaan and Kailash Kher gave a joint performance of their song Chaand Sifaarish from Fanaa. Singer Salman Ali from the team UP Dabbangs shared his story about singing his first Bollywood playback which was Awara from Dabangg 3. He also later performed the song, which made Sajid Khan emotional, remembering his late brother, Wajid Khan. He also sang Awara in memory of Wajid, while Salman Khan was standing as a strong emotional support with his friend.

The UP Dabbangs team followed next with their performance. Their mascot Suresh Raina first entered the stage with his bat, showing his challenge to the other teams.

One of the captains of the team, Ankit Tiwari, began his performance with the song Dil Cheez Tujhe De Di from Airlift. Then came their captain Payal Dev with her performance on Saara Zamana. Finally came Salman Ali with his performance of Sajda from My Name Is Khan. The trio then performed on the song Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani. The team and their mascots then talked about their challenge to the other teams.

Cricketer Suresh Raina also sang a bit of the song Ek Ajnabee Haseena Se and was later joined by his team. They were then joined by Akanksha Chaturvedi, the founder of Eduaaraa, the company that owns the team. She also shook a leg with her team’s brief performances.

Next came the team Bengal Tigers. This team was given a headstart by their owner, Ananya Birla. Her foundation, the Ananya Birla Foundation, owns the team Bengal Tigers. She, being a singer herself, began with her performance of the song Kaise Paheli Hai from Parineeta.

Her performance was followed by the performance of one of their captains, Shaan, singing Chaar Kadam from PK. Then came their second captain, Akriti Kakkar, who performed the song Saturday Saturday from Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. Their third member, Jituraj Mohanty gave his performance on the song Burj Khalifa from Laxmmi. All the three members then ended the performance with the song Dus Bahane.

The team welcomed their mascot, Govinda who gave the most energizing and amazing dance performance on a number of his songs. His wife and his daughter also joined the team on the stage after his performance. Govinda also sang a few lines of the song Roop Tera Mastana.

Near the end, came the enlivening performance on the Gujarati folk song Sanedo, followed up by Dhol Baaje. All the team mascots joined the stage at this moment and shook their legs. The opening ceremony ended on a high note as all the teams performed on the IPML anthem.
