Today marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. On this occasion, let’s have a look at some classics of Bollywood that threw light on this issue and helped in spreading a positive message to the society

The United Nations General Assembly has designated November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.  The day’s assertion is to raise public awareness about the fact that women across the world are victims of rape, domestic violence, and other forms of violence. While every woman in society strives for a safe and secure environment, Bollywood films have played a role as a catalyst in spreading this message all over the world.

On this occasion, let us take a look at some Bollywood masterworks that dealt with this subject.

Mardaani (2014)

Shivani Roy, a female cop, is the protagonist of Mardaani. Rani Mukerji plays the kingpin of criminal organizations involving child trafficking and drugs in the film. It depicts how the female officer combats female trafficking in the city.

Mom (2017)

Mom is a story about a woman who seeks vengeance for her daughter’s rape and death after the law denies her justice. Sridevi portrays a simple mother who morphs into a devious woman in order to seek revenge for her daughter’s death.

Pink (2016)

Pink informed the public whenever a woman says ‘No,’ she means ‘No.’ He cannot be compelled to do something against her will, regardless of the way she dresses or the style of living. Amitabh Bachchan appears to be playing a lawyer who fights for the girls, played by Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari, and Andrea Tariang, who are caught up in a legal battle with notorious boys from powerful families.

Thappad (2020)

Thappad, by Anubhav Sinha, subtly emphasized the importance of speaking out against domestic violence. The plot revolves around Taapsee Pannu, a loving wife who decides to leave her marital relationship after her husband slaps her. The film, which also starred Pavail Gulati, Ratna Pathak Shah, Kumud Mishra, and Dia Mirza, was well received by both audiences and critics.
