Jamuna Dhaki, Sharate Aaj: Bengali shows that will get you right into the spirit for Durga Puja 2020

Usher in the festive season with these delightful Bangla shows that will put you in the mood to celebrate Durga Puja 2020.

It’s that time of the year again! Everyone in Bengal waits to welcome Ma Durga, the great goddess of war and the conqueror of evil. She arrives atop her lion, along with her children, Lakshmi, Saraswati, Kartik, and Ganesh. This year, Durga Puja will take place from October 22 to 26, and we cannot wait for the festivities to begin! We got you these riveting Bengali shows on ZEE5 which will be sure to get you right into the mood to celebrate.

1. Jamuna Dhaki

The latest Zee Bangla TV serial Jamuna Dhaki is all about the titular protagonist Jamuna (played by Sweta Bhattacharya), who is a drummer! She plays the dhak (drum) at large events and festivals like Durga Puja. In fact, she took up the profession formally after her father, Ganga Dhaki, took ill at a grand Durga Puja that he was playing at. Jamuna stepped in to play the dhak in place of him, and hasn’t looked back since! And what is Durga Puja without the sounds of the booming beats of a traditional dhak? Tune in and enjoy!

2. Sharate Aaj

Sharate Aaj is a ZEE5 Original series in Bengali, which is set in London. After a failed terrorist attack, the Indian ex-pats of the city experience a backlash. Because of this, the members of the Bengali community face difficulties in celebrating Durga Puja that year. While Mahbub (Parambrata Chattopadhyay) tries to save his relationship with his estranged nephew Tridibesh (Soumya Sengupta), the head of the puja committee tries to find ways of salvaging the Puja this year.

3. Durga Saptasati

Durga Saptasati is a special Mahalaya programme where your favourite Zee Bangla TV serial actors like Ki Kore Bolbo Tomay star Swastika Dutta performs gorgeous classical dances in a unique avatar of Ma Durga. Actor Sourav Saha, who plays the role of Gadadhar Chattopadhyay in Rani Rashmoni, recites the famous Mahishasura Mardini that we traditionally wake up to hear at dawn on the day of Mahalaya.

4. Maa Duggar Ashur Bodh

This one is an animated show that audiences across all ages will absolutely love! Ma Duggar Ashur Bodh is a modern adaptation of the famous story where Ma Durga fights the evil Mahishasura and emerges victorious. The central theme is the triumph of good over evil, and in this delightful show, we get to see the great goddess vanquish the evil demon that is the Coronavirus!
