Dr Vikram Lahoria has tips for everyone with hair fall, dark circles, and dandruff issues in this enlightening episode of Jee Aayan Nu.

Every time Jaspinder Cheema and Seema Kaushal appear on screen in the Punjabi TV show Jee Aayan Nu, they ensure that they put up an entertaining and informative show. In one such episode, the duo shed light on the issues of skincare and haircare with dermatologist Dr Vikram Lahoria.

Watch Dr Lahoria busting myths here:

The Main Reason Behind Hair Fall

Dr Lahoria says that skin and hair are correlated. The main reason behind hair fall is our lifestyle, especially lack of sleep, avoiding exercise, absence of a proper diet and being dependent on junk food and cold drinks. He says that earlier, kids used to eat more home-cooked food and were not exposed too much to chips and candies. However, now things have changed. Chips and candies which contain artificial colours affect the skin and hair first and then the internal organs. One needs to have a proper diet to prevent hair fall.

The Secret Of Hair Growth

Dr Lahoria insists that once we follow a proper diet, eat fresh and local fruits and veggies and live a proper lifestyle with controlled exercise, hair growth is guaranteed. If still there is no improvement, one should go for tests, as there can be a deficiency of Vitamin D, B12 which is commonly found in females. Haemoglobin and iron deficiency can also affect hair growth. Even after all these are addressed, if the problem still persists, then it either has a genetic basis or is due to thyroid issues.

The Myth Around Dandruff

Another nightmare…dandruff. Well, the doctor says that dandruff is commonly found in teenagers and it happens due to many reasons like drinking, smoking and eating junk food. Dr Lahoria says that if we have fresh fruits, veggies and have proper sleep, dandruff can be controlled. He also burst the biggest myth around dandruff — that we must apply excesses oil to avoid dryness in the scalp. He says that dandruff occurs because of excessive oils our skin secretes. In such cases, the oil should be applied to the hair and not to the roots.

How Sunscreen Prevents You From Getting Vitamin D

We are afraid of getting tanned by sunlight. However, the doctor says that our skin does need to be exposed to direct sunlight for 10-15 minutes daily. And if you use sunscreen, you prevent sunlight from entering the skin, leading to a deficiency of Vitamin D. While Vitamin D tablets can be taken in extreme cases, the natural source is the best one.

So these are some facts we bet you were not aware of. Watch the full episode and let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
