Karan Johar Calls-Off His ‘Ambitious’ Project Takht, Shifts To A New Rom-Com ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani’

The period drama ‘Takht’ was being branded as Karan Johar’s most ambitious project. With an ensemble cast, the film has been in buzz since its announcement. And while fans were eagerly waiting for new updates, the makers have decided to shelve the project. Yes! Facing several roadblocks, Karan Johar has finally called off Takht and is planning to elevate towards a new rom-com film ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani’.

Earlier, the film Takht was set to begin production this year. However, it was stalled numerous times, owing to Covid-19 restrictions. Later on, the biggest shocker was Fox Star studios opting out of the project. They were skeptical of backing the film in the current times. For those unaware, the big-budgeted film was being jointly financed by Dharma Productions and Fox Star.

After the fallout with Fox Star, it was reported that Disney+ Hotstar might invest in Takht. And now, it seems that this particular option also did not work out. Reports also add that the film was based on “controversial” Mughal history which might have turned out as a major problem for the project. Following these major setbacks, Karan Johar decided to shelve the project completely.

The film ‘Takht’ had become the talk of the entertainment world for several reasons. Firstly, it would have marked an epic union of talented actors like Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh, Vicky Kaushal, and others. On the other hand, the makers had promised a refreshing yet real take on Mughal history in India. And these few reasons were enough to pique everyone’s interest. However, now that the project has been shelved, it has definitely left the fans in disbelief.

After folding up his ‘ambitous’ Takht, Karan Johar is moving on to a light-hearted romantic comedy. The film is titled ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani’. And it will feature Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in the lead, marking their reunion after the 2019 hit film Gully Boy.
