In the latest Zee Bangla TV serial Khirer Putul, which is a delightful fantasy show based on the classic novelette by Abanindranath Tagore, Raja Samantak (played by actor Suman Dey) is about to get married, when a number of roadblocks fall in his path. A series of bad omens darken the ceremony and cause much consternation among all who are present. So what are these ill omens, and what do they foreshadow for our great king?
Watch this episode of Khirer Putul below:
An omen is a any kind of phenomenon that signifies what the future may hold. In ancient times, good and bad omens were well-defined in what they portended, and gave people an idea of what was to come. During Raja Samantak’s wedding to Suorani (who we will soon discover to be truly evil and absolutely no good for him), we see that the garland of flowers that he is about to place around his soon-to-be bride, slips from his hand as if by magic, and drops to the ground!
The crowd roars in horror, but this is not the end of it. Another truly ill omen appears soon after in the form of a snake! In fact, it is a wizard who turns the sacred flower garland into a supremely eerie and slithery creature which darts about threateningly, much to everyone’s fright. Now we all know that these reptiles are usually considered to be a sign of grave danger lurking ahead– a harbinger of unspeakable evil and doom. Clearly, Raja Samantak’s marriage to Suorani will be far from favourable to him in the future! What battles will he have to fight as a result of it? What sort of demons will assail him in his journey? We can only wait with bated breath and watch what happens next!
Is Raja Samantak’s marriage to Suorani doomed to fail? Tell us what you think in the comments below!
