Mahira Khan – Mikaal Zulfiqar’s Shehr-E-Zaat Is A Romantic Tale With A Whirlwind Of Emotions

Mahira Khan and Mikaal Zulfiqar’s Shehr-E-Zaat is loosely based on the Greek mythological tale of the sculptor named Pygmalion. Falak’s life turns upside down when she marries her prince charming Salman. But when there is supposed to be a happy ending then why does the princess have to suffer? Perhaps because she has not learned her lessons yet! Falak is a self-obsessed brat who does not even know how to spell ‘kind’. But soon, life lessons turn her into a soft person as her hard shell wilts away. She is revealed to be a conscious and helpful woman with love, filled in her bottomless heart.

Falak’s journey of realisation is the viewer’s journey through a whirlwind of emotions. There are absolutely no emotions that the show has not covered in the storyline. It begins with selfishness on the part of self-centred Falak. In her defence, the child learns it from a young age from her socialite mother who believes only money and cash wads are to be respected. But at the same time, we also observe Falak’s Nani and her kindness towards all living beings including the animals.

Later, we come across Falak’s friend Humza. He is a person who loves Falak unconditionally and their friendship is one that Falak can count upon no matter what. Falak goes through bad patches in her life but Humza does not leave her side. Parallelly, we see Falak’s passionate love for Salman.

She sculpts his statue and it comes alive. She falls in love with him. But she fails to think about the consequences of falling in love so hard and so easy!

In the next sequence, we see Falak’s jealousy towards Tabinda. The woman who is not so beautiful yet has her husband, Salman falling in love with her needlessly! As to say, we also see Salman’s infidelity and hatred towards Falak. Falak becomes inconsolable and feels like her world has come to a crashing end.

But Falak soon arrives upon the truth of the world and comes out of her dream. She sets her life straight and finds solace in her love for Salman. But through it all, there are certain emotions and lessons that we can take away from the show. Kindness, love and friendship can be a few of them.
