Mamakiki revolves around the lives of four college buddies, who meet at a reunion after five long years. Scroll to read the full review. Also, Amrutha Srinivasan (as Rita miss) and Jayaditya Kang (who played Dev’s younger version) nailed it perfectly.

RJ Ramesh Thilak and filmmaker Nalan Kumaraswamy starrer Mamakiki is a ZEE5 Original film that successfully  manages to strike a chord with its audience. The film has many little moments of humour that will make you laugh your guts out. Mamakiki, was helmed by 5 directors – G Radhakrishnan, Vadivel, Shree Karthick, Karthik Siva and Sameer Bharat Ram (the Producer).

The film was long due for a theatrical release but then the makers decided to present it on a digital platform. Mamakiki has finally hit the web and now you can also enjoy this middling feel-good comedy with your family in this lockdown period.

Here’s our complete review of the comedy-drama:

Storyline

Touted to be a romantic-comedy, the story revolves around the lives of four college buddies, Madhu ( Preetha), Mani (Ramesh Thilak), Kiranthi ( Maanas) and Kishore (Dev) who meet at a reunion after five long years. The title of the movie seems to have been arrived by combining the first syllable of each name. Of the four, one of them does not turn up while the remaining three people meet at their college and indulge in nostalgia. They reminisce over the sweet memories of their college life.

Analysis

Mamakiki is packaged as an anthology film, which consists of four stories tied together by a common thread – the four college friends. Each story that is narrated by the characters has been directed by different directors and scriptwriters which is reflected in the writing and the variance in style in each narrative.

My favourite flashback story has to be the one that features Madurai Mani (RJ Ramesh Thilak) and director Nalan Kumaraswami. A part of it has also been extensively used in the trailer. The comic story of an engineer aspiring to be a filmmaker makes for quite a few good laughs. As always, Ramesh Thilak’s comic timing doesn’t fail in delivering. The scenes featuring discussions on the finer aspects of filmmaking and editing make for an interesting glimpse into the world of cinema.

Also, I loved the last story of Dev, it makes for an amazing short film. The story has the perfect mix of ‘innocence’ and ‘nostalgia’ as it manages to bring out genuine emotions.

From Preetha Anandan’s funny marriage proposals to Ramesh Thilak’s story behind choosing ‘writer’ as a profession, the film is an entertaining watch. Also,  Manas’ story of drug addiction and Dev’s funny experience from school days; the experiences of these four individuals are sure to take you on a hilarious ride.

Performances

Speaking of performances, this kind of film requires a strong portrayal from the artists and as expected, Ramesh, Preetha, Manas and Dev did justice to their respective characters. My personal favourite Ramesh, who can pull off comedy with ease, gave a crunchy performance even in this one; We loved his comic timing.

Also, Amrutha Srinivasan (as Rita miss) and Jayaditya Kang (who played Dev’s younger version) nailed it perfectly. In fact, their performances made the storyline more interesting, striking a chord with the audiences.

Mamakiki is now available exclusively on the online streaming platform ZEE5. Watch and let us know how did you like it in the comment section below. Stay tuned!
