Mass Casualty occurred at Travis Scott concert, 8 people died

American rapper Jacques Berman Webster II, known professionally as Travis Scott, has cancelled Saturday’s Astroworld festival in Houston, Texas after a massive crowd surge on the first night of the concert on Friday. According to local officials, at least eight people were killed and hundreds more were injured.

Around 9:15 p.m., a large crowd of concertgoers rushed the stage at Houston’s NRG Park, crushing those in front of it. According to Deadline, authorities also estimate that at least 23 people, including a 10-year-old, were sent to a hospital. There were 11 people who were thought to be in cardiac arrest. 300 victims were treated at a field hospital on the scene. However, this was not the first time Astroworld had to deal with crowd control concerns.

In November 2019, three people were injured in a rush outside the event. Supporters were climbing over metal barriers and racing toward the entrance minutes before the gates were supposed to open, according to local television reports.

Pictures of the chaos, which began at the entrance gates and lasted inside the musical venue, inundated social media. A medical examiner will determine the cause of death for the eight people, who have not been identified since their families have not been told, according to authorities.

People who had lost contact with their loved ones were sent to the neighboring Wyndham Hotel. Live Nation, the show’s producer, stated that investigators will be able to watch the show’s tape. Currently, Travis Scott is collaborating with authorities.

Meanwhile, hundreds of fans were seen storming through barriers at access gates earlier in the day, avoiding metal detectors and security officers. Astroworld premiered in 2018, but owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was cancelled in 2020. A total of 100,000 tickets were sold for this year’s multi-day event.
