Parinika Uchil . Oct 24, 2019 .

Fans of the Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri recipient can now see 12 of his ghost stories in a new series. Find out what the author had to say!

Born to Edith Clarke and Aubrey Bond, on May 19, 1934, Ruskin Bond is a maestro poet and writer who has authored approximately 500 short stories, essays and books combined with making more than one autobiography. Recently, ZEE5 had a wonderful opportunity to bring some of his stories alive by giving it a digital face, through the Original series Parchhayee: Ghost Stories By Ruskin Bond, and we couldn’t be more proud.

Treasured in our Indian literature, you must come across many poems and short stories of Ruskin Bond while studying in school too. An Indian author of British descent, Ruskin lost his real father at a very young age to malaria, which resulted in him shifting permanently to India, to his grandmother’s house in Dehradun. After his mother remarried, the accomplished writer spent his entire childhood in the beautiful foothills of the Himalayas.

This was when he started developing a close bond with books and got fascinated by the paranormal world. In an interview with a leading daily, the author has claimed to have actually never encountered a ghost personally but believes that they are all around us with their own individual stories. However, one thing that he mentioned in this interview stuck with us, which is, “If you look for a ghost, you’ll find one”.

Mr Bond completed his education at Bishop Cottons School, Shimla and got his first book published at the meagre age of 21 titled ‘The Room On The Roof. Since then there was no looking back for the writer, who went on to write more of Children’s fiction books and poems that received great praise all throughout. His books then started getting adapted on TV (through Bollywood films).

If you are a fan of Ruskin Bond’s writing then you must know that most of his stories are set in the hilly areas where he spent most of his childhood writing stories. His short ghost stories in particular like The Ghost In The Garden, The Wind On Haunted Hill, Wilson’s Bridge and The Overcoat give you an eerie feeling but have subtle elements to keep your nerves intact.

The Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri recipient was soon delighted to know that his stories would soon be available on the digital platform through the ZEE5 Original Series Parchhayee. It is a set of 12 short ghost stories written by the award-winning author.  In another interview with another daily, the author expressed his joy by saying, “I am happy that my stories are coming alive for the first time on a digital platform and I look forward to watching them. I hope my readers will enjoy the series.”

The 85-year-old author still continues to write and keep his fans entertained and we hope to see another season of his wonderful collection of stories. If you agree, type in yes in the space given below for round two of Ruskin Bond stories.
