Nazriya Nazim Birthday: Revisiting Vaayai Moodi Pesavum, the film that gave birth to her iconic partnership with Dulquer Salmaan

Nazriya Nazim is that next-door-girl we all wish we were friends with. As this young talented star grows a year older on 20 December, let’s look back at one of her most chuckle-worthy movies Vaayai Moodi Pesavum. The young star broke in as a household name across south India through the movie. Nazriya lead this laugh riot of a movie opposite the stunning Dulquer Salmaan. Through the movie, directed by Balaji Mohan, the duo kicked off what later became an iconic partnership in south Indian movies. One talks and the other listens

One of the biggest takeaways from the movie was how polar opposite the two lead characters were. While Aravind (Dulquer Salmaan) loved to talk, Anjana (Nazriya Nazim) kept her thoughts to herself. From the moment the duo first meets, the viewers simply get lost in how perfectly they both fit in each other’s lives. Even when the whole town goes mute in the movie, the duo communicating through just eye contact is charming to watch.

Kadhal Ara Onnu Vizundhuchu

The song Kadhal Ara Onnu Vizundhuchu was an instant hit when the movie came out. Composed and sung by Sean Roldan along with Shaktishree Gopalan, the song was constantly being played in everyone’s head. The video of the song played a big role in its success and the Nazriya-Dulquer duo is  responsible for it. With shots set in the high ranges of Kerala, the duo was dressed as a couple from an 80s romantic drama flick and it simply fit. The duo simply looked like they were from the era of plaid jackets and long silky dresses. The song till date is a fan-favourite for obvious reasons.

Share your candy

One of the cutest scenes in the movie is when Aravind finds out about Anjana’s obsession with candies. Aravind being the free-spirited romantic that he is, goes out of his way to get Anjana a load of her favourite candies without her knowing. As Nazriya plays out the character as a child-to-the-heart person, this scene and her reaction to it is sure to put a smile on your face.

A smile says a thousand words

The movie takes a big turn when every resident of Panimalai hill station is forced to stop talking due to some unforeseen reasons. While people fail to communicate the easiest of things, Aravind and Anjana simply aces through the situation by exchanging looks and smiles. As cute as it sounds, the duo’s chemistry is sure to melt your heart. It is one of the many reasons that Nazriya – Dulquer became a prominent partnership that went on to feature in many more movies.
