Men can’t cry, says who? When Anu is at the hospital, he stays beside her bed and doesn’t shy away from speaking his heart out and shedding a tear. The idea of men crying was considered to be a taboo but around us, this conversation is increasing and we think Surya does his bit to tell everyone that crying doesn’t make him less of a man.
Manning up doesn’t mean one doesn’t recognise the softer sides of his own self, does it? When Anu gifts him a flowerpot, he doesn’t think twice before admiring its beauty in the open which proves to us that he is constantly in touch with his emotions and nature. All of this doesn’t mean that he can’t fight or be hard. In fact, it is quite the opposite. He considers his mother as his best friend and is constantly in awe of the strong women he’s surrounded by.
When Meera cries in front of him, he never calls her a drama queen or undermines her because she seems to show her emotions. This is a practice that not a lot of workplaces follow in reality and we love Surya for doing so. More power to him and we hope he keeps redefining gender norms like this!
