Oh My Kadavule Movie Review: Ashwath’s Rom-Com With A Fantasy Spin Is An Engaging Watch

leona . May 09, 2020 .

Debutant Ashwanth Marimuthu’s Oh My Kadavule makes us fall in love with this unusual love story. Also, telly actress Vani Bhojan’s performance as Meera was fair and it definitely did not feel like it is her debut film in Tamil.

Ashwath Marimuthu’s debut directorial venture Oh My Kadavule is an endearing film about love and friendship. The film has a beautiful message that life gives a second chance to not do things differently, but do the same thing with a different approach. Clearly, not everyone is privileged to have another chance to rectify the mistakes they had committed in the past.

Watch the blockbuster Tamil movie Captain online on ZEE5.

The film stars Ashok Selvan and Ritika Singh in the lead roles, while Vani Bhojan, Sha Ra play essential characters. Actors like Vijay Sethupathi, Ramesh Thilak also grace the screen with their extended cameos. Here’s our complete review of the comedy-drama that is currently streaming on the ZEE5 platform.

Story

Touted to be a romance-comedy, Ashok Selvan Selvan and Ritika Singh’s, Oh My Kadavule revolves around Arjun’s (played by Ashok) complicated married life. He is hitched to his childhood friend Anu (Ritika) but has no romantic feelings for his now-wife. The two end up in court, asking for a divorce.

While Anu loves Arjun, the latter finds it difficult to romance his wife as he only sees her as his best friend. To add on to the misery, Arjun’s childhood friend Meera (Vani Bhojan) enters their lives to complicate things. Will Arjun choose Meera over Anu or fix his estranged relationship with the latter?

Analysis

Oh My Kadavule, is an interesting offering from Tamil cinema. Ashwath presents a romantic drama (with a bit of comedy added to it) through the lens of fantasy. No doubt, the film is a result of some excellent writing, and the cinematography adds to the fun vibe, making it an engaging watch. From romance to friendship to comedy and a sweet message at the end of it, the film is a feel-good romantic comedy, and it deserves a watch.

Also, Oh My Kadavule will see some outstanding performances by the ensemble cast. And the surprise elements in the film keeps us glued to our screens throughout.

Performances

Ashok Selvan as Arjun and Ritika Singh as Anu have nailed their roles with their up to the mark performances. The best scene in the film has to be the one where Arjun and Anu argue in the lift. That moment between the two surely did not look like acting, but some real-life exchange of reactions.

Also, telly actress Vani Bhojan’s performance as Meera was fair and it definitely did not feel like it is her debut film in Tamil. It goes without saying that Vijay Sethupathi and RJ Ramesh Thilak did a great job. Although their allocated screen space was brief but they had pivotal cameos. Sha Ra, who essayed the role of Arjun’s friend, too did a decent role as always.

Produced by G Dilli Babu under the banner Axess Film Factory, the film is an engaging and highly inventive romance. Oh My Kadavule is now available exclusively on the online streaming platform ZEE5.
