On Engineer’s Day, we take a look at the engineer stars of Tollywood

Of course, just because they have moved on to the field of acting, it doesn’t mean that they have forgotten their engineering roots.

The Telugu movie industry is known for its exceptional talent on and off the silver-screen. Several of them have come from humble backgrounds with various educational qualifications.

In memory of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya this Engineer’s Day, we bring to you a list of Engineers from the Tollywood industry. Of course, just because they have moved on to the field of acting, it doesn’t mean that they have forgotten their engineering roots.

Ritu Varma

She is well renowned for her beauty and versatility in the Tollywood hall of fame. Ritu earned her bachelor’s degree in engineering from the Malla Reddy Engineering College at her hometown, Hyderabad.

She took up acting after completing her engineering degree and went onto act in a short film ‘Anukokunda’ for which, she received a Best Female Actor Award. She debuted in the 2013 movie ‘Prema Ishq Kaadhal’, then got her big break in ‘Pelli Choopulu’ where she established herself.

Tapsee Pannu

Way before Tapsee made her name in the Tollywood and Bollywood industries, she was a dedicated student of computer science. She studied Computer Science Engineering in Guru Tegh Bahadur Institute of Technology at New Delhi. Having worked as a software engineer for some time after her studies, her associates and well-wishers the company asked her to take up a career in modeling. The rest is history!

Nagarjuna Akkineni

The son of ace actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Nagarjuna Akkineni had become a legend himself.

He was a student of Automobile Engineering from the Easter Michigan University at Ypsilanti, Michigan. He then went into acting in Tollywood as a career. Since he got in, Nagarjuna didn’t need an introduction to his trade as he already made a mark on it.

Vennela Kishore

Vennela is known for his comedy scenes in Telugu movie industry. He was a student at the Ferris State University in Michigan where he earned a bachelor degree in computer science. He took up a job as a software quality engineer in the US soon after.

Although he did not jump into the movie industry right away, he found his spot in the field of acting after being featured as a US university student in the romcom ‘Vennela’. After which, he understood where he belonged and became an actor and director.

Sekhar Kammula

Sekhar kickstarted his career in Tollywood after working as an IT engineer for three years. He was an engineering student at Chaitanya Bharathi Institute of Technology (CBIT) for his bachelor degree and earned his PG degree in the United States of America.

He then found his true calling and got a Master’s Degree in Filmaking from Howard University. After which, he started chasing his dreams in the film industry.

Avasarala Srinivas

An overall all-rounder, Srinivas played the roles of an actor, a director, a screenwriter, dialogue writer and a television host. Before making a name for himself as a comedian and actor in the Tollywood industry, he was a mechanical engineer.

He has a Master’s Degree in mechanical Engineering from the University of North Dakota. He then expanded his vision into playing a part in the movie industry. Srinivas got a screenwriting diploma at the University of California and got a year-long training in acting at New York, USA.

Telugu film industry has these pioneers who are not only great for their contribution to Tollywood, but also have engineering backgrounds.
