It has been a season of new shows, so many of which focus around or showcase a bit of royalty. When we talk about royalty, we don’t mean grand sets and elaborate costume, but interesting writing, brilliant dialogue and show’s production value overall. From the erotic period drama, Paurashpur to the political murder mystery, Dark 7 White, here are some shows that exude royal charm in so many scenes!

Paurushpur

Set in the fictional town of Paurashpur, this show revolves around a royal palace. Every episode is mostly shot in the palace and the lives of each member of the royal family are shown in a lot of detail. The viewer gets a sneak peek of sorts into the everyday politics, debauchery and drama that occurs in a royal kingdom. Handmaidens and exquisite costumes, candlelit rooms and grandiose ceilings, this show has it all.

Weddings, rebellions and killings, everything ensues in the city of Paurashpur, and the viewer is left with feeling well-satisfied with the royal life.

Bang Baang

Inherently an action-thriller, this drama does involve the royal family of Udaipur. Two members of the royal family are found dead and it is upon the leads of the show, Meera and Raghu to find the killers. Meera is also engaged to the prince of the royal family and this entangles her with royalty, which gives her a chance to observe them closely.

While Meera gels well into the royal family, the viewers will get a great feel of Rajasthani royals. Sit back for a fun ride for this one’s going to be epic.

Apna Time Bhi Aayega

Rani has big dreams, but her father is a servant with the Jaipur royal family palace. For a 21-year old girl, life takes an unexpected turn when she is expected to work at the same palace as her father. This show on Zee TV is all about a woman’s dreams in and around the royal family. Will her innocence be lost in the politics of the royal family? Will her dreams survive the weight of her job? Watch Apna Time Bhi Aayega to find out if Rani makes it or not!

Dark 7 white

A youth-centric drama about the killing of a future chief minister turns into proper whodunnit when the investigating officers find a lot of suspects. The drama focuses on the eight years that Yudhveer Singh Rathore spent understanding and manipulating people and paving his path from a prince from a royal family to the chief minister of the state. In this journey, his college friends seem to have been involved as well, so when Yudi is killed while on his way to his oath-taking ceremony, the suspicion falls on each one of them.

Watch this show if you’re into crime but love the royal aesthetic and the dirty politics.

Nurpur ki Rani

Directed by Hassaim Hussien, this is an Urdu show about two girls who have completely different lives, but find themselves bound to each other nonetheless. The girls look alike, but one is a normal girl, Noorie and the other is a princess, Rania. Noorie is sent to an orphanage after her uncle dies. A certain chain of events lets Noorie then reach the palace to start a new life. How do the girls’ lives entangle and what does fate have in store for them? Watch here to learn more.

Ek tha Raja Ek thi Rani

A Dhrasti Dhami starrer, this show is set in the backdrop of the 50’s. It is the story of Gayatri and Rana Indravadhan and the generations that follow them.  What begins as a deal instead of a marriage in Ameerkot, slowly turns into a love so deep, it spans generations and births.
