Actor-politician Pawan Kalyan is not happy with the title ‘Power Star’ bestowed on him by fans. He reminds them of not backing his political venture at a pre-release event.

Uneasy lies the head that wear a crown is a popular adage. Simply put it means persons in power are constantly apprehensive.

But Tollywood actor turned politician Pawan Kalyan feels he only has the crown or title of ‘Power Star’ given to him by his legion of adoring fans, with no commensurate ‘power’ to exercise.

Making no bones about this sinking feeling that Pawan Kalyan, younger sibling of actor-politician Chiranjeevi harbours, the Atharintiki Daaredi star said he felt ashamed to this title.

The actor expressed this sense of disappointment at not getting the nod from the people that make the ‘republic’ and institutions that run on the mandate given through universal adult franchise.

Using the pre-release event of the upcoming romantic action drama Republic helmed by Deva Katta, the actor wondered why Suma, anchoring the show and his fans keep referring to him by the title ‘Power Star’. The actor bluntly reminded the audience that the title was meaningless without ‘political power’.

This is the first such open expression of disappointment by Pawan Kalyan at attempts to make a mark in electoral politics and also a subtle reminder to his fans who have not given him the ‘power’ that he aspires to bring about change.

The actor willy-nilly reminded his fans that they must help him live up to the title they have given him or come up with an alternative that does not clash with his political aspirations.

Incidentally, the film ‘Republic starring Sai Dharam Tej, Aishwarya Rajesh, Jagapathi Babu and Ramya Krishna is a powerful critique on corruption in political echelons. The film is scheduled to hit the theatres on October 1.

Pawan Kalyan was all praise for Deva Katta for taking up a dicey topic as the subject of his directorial venture. The actor-politician who has since carved a niche for himself in philanthropy since he bid adieu to his acting career, urged all the stakeholders to ensure that the true spirit of Republic shines through.

Pawan Kalyan incidentally made his film debut in 1996 wtih Akkada Ammayi Ikkada Abbayi. He starred in Tholi Prema in 1998, which won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu that year.
