While the world is taking huge leaps towards gender equality, there are still a lot of times when discrimination is persistent. Discrimination is not only when one says that gender cannot do what the other gender does, but it also comes into play when people think that the other gender has it easy and this is exactly the point that Prema Entha Maduram makes with the spat between Subbu and Paddu.

The gender war is pretty evident from their usual conversations. For example, When Subbu says that he could easily do what Paddu does and not flinch for a minute, the latter answers that what Subbu does would come naturally to her too. Gender roles are a thing of reality in our society. The first step towards a society with no gender prejudice is for men and women to develop understanding and respect for the opposite gender’s contributions. Not much of that is sadly present between Sudhu and Paddu.
We have heard Subbu saying that he could cook way better than his wife and she says that if she sold sarees in his place, there would be none left by evening. It is awesome to believe in your own skills, but not so awesome to look down on someone else’s; isn’t it?
We have also repeatedly witnessed how they fail to figure out that there is a struggle involved in what both of them do. In one instance, Subbu starts playing Neel’s guitar while Paddu gets annoyed and asks him to go for his job so she can start with her chores. The argument soon reaches a point where both start explaining how the other has got it easy.
We see Subbu and Paddu exchanging their chores, only to realise that none was really a cakewalk. We’re very glad they come to a mutual understanding that they have years of expertise in what they do and that no job is really ‘easy’.
At the end of the day, we know that this would bring them closer. Although we are obsessed with Anu and Arya‘s love story, we would love to know more about Anu’s parents too!
