The Ramayan has been around for hundreds of years and has always been relevant to every society. There are many reasons for this. The epic talks about the devotion to family, the relations between husband and wife, the difference between good and evil and the importance of being true to God. But the most important person of the tale, Lord Ram himself is an extremely admirable man, who teaches us these very things. Devotion

Lord Ram is not just devoted to God, but he is extremely devoted to his father and his mothers, the three queens. He is an extremely good son who listens to his parents’ every word with great enthusiasm and respect. Even when his father, on Queen Keikei’s request, sends him away for 14 years, Lord Ram graciously accepts this and leaves with a smile! He harbours no ill feelings for them even after such orders and remains devoted them throughout his life!

Loyalty

Lord Ram is loyal to his subjects, his friends and to his wife, Sita. In all of his years during his vanvas, he goes through and meets a lot of people, but he is never swayed by any woman and has eyes only for his wife Sita. When Lakshman is injured, Ram leaves no stone unturned to bring his brother back to life. Even after he is banished from his kingdom, Lord Ram protects the honour of his kingdom and never thinks ill of the king. This loyalty and devotion are what earns Lord Ram many followers and allies!

Bravery

When his wife Sita is kidnapped, Lord Ram gathers his army and makes allies to go to Lanka. He is not afraid of the demon King Raavan and wants to fight him to save his queen. He is brave when he needs to be but he also has humility and he is extremely humble, as a warrior should be. His bravery comes without arrogance and greed and that is what makes him special.

Strength 

At Sita’s Swayamvar, when many princes try to lift the Shivdhanush, no one is able to do it. Only when Lord Ram tries it, he is able to lift it. This leaves everyone shocked and envious at the same time! Killing Ravan is not a simple task either as Ravan has many boons that make him a very powerful demon king, yet lord Ram manages to not only infiltrate Ravan’s army but to also manage to behead all his 10 heads! This proves how strong Lord Ram is!

Respectful

He does not think that he has all the knowledge in the world and is extremely courteous with others. He listens to others’ opinions very carefully and considers them honestly. He does not act high and mighty about being a prince or a great warrior! Even when he does become king, he is known to be fair and just and is always ready to respectfully listen to his subjects, which is why his people love him!
