Monday Motivation: Rani Rashmoni’s women picking up guns to fight British is the real definition of ‘women empowerment’

In today’s day and age, it is a well-known fact that women have immense strength and can do everything that a man can. But during Rani Maa’s times, it was not a popular belief. So when the women of Rani Rashmoni courageously picked up the revolvers, it was a pleasant surprise.

Back in the 19th century, it was not expected of women to be as brave as a man on the battlefield. Especially as the British ruled our country back then, they had enslaved Indians and looked down upon them as a race. Thus, for a woman or group of them to show absolutely no fear and use weapons such as guns and revolvers at the time of need was not a usual occurrence.

Recently when Rani Maa had to cross paths with Sir Donald alone, Padma insisted that they would accompany her to protect her. As expected, Sir Donald stopped Rani Maa on her way to Pankdoba village. He even threatened to kill her as his men gathered around him. But to his surprise, Jagadamba, Padma, Kamala, and Peshonno miraculously appeared from behind Rani Maa pointing revolvers at them. When doubted by Sir Donald, about their capabilities to use the revolvers, Rani Maa reminded him to never question a woman’s strength or courage. She made it clear that they had no fear of him or his men and would take them all down if needed.
