Reena Rai’s performance in this film was hailed widely, and she became an instant sensation. This film was reportedly offered to several other actresses before Reena Rai. When the other heroines refused to work for various reasons, the picture came into Reena Rai’s hands.

Saira Ali, the third daughter of small-time actor Sadiq Ali and Sharda Rai, who performed in the film Bawre Nain and later produced Gunehgar Kaun, was born in Mumbai, India. Her three siblings disowned their father after her parents split. Her mother renamed all four of her children after the divorce. Roy’s given name was Roopa Rai, but her debut film’s producer altered it to Reena Roy.

After a highly publicized love affair with Shatrughan Sinha, Roy left the film industry in 1983 to marry Pakistani cricketer Mohsin Khan. Roy couldn’t adjust to Khan’s showy lifestyle, and the couple divorced in the 1990s. Roy first lost custody of her daughter Sanam, but when her ex-husband remarried, she regained custody.
