The late Reema Lagoo is known for her immense contribution to the Marathi and Hindi cinema. She was considered to be Bollywood’s favourite mother and made a mark with her different shades of motherly roles in the ’90s and the ‘2000s. After entertaining us for several years, the Anumati actress died after suffering from a cardiac arrest at age 58 in 2017. 1. Reema’s real name

Reema was born in the year 1958 as Nayan Bhadbhade. The actress adopted the name Reema only after her marriage to Vivek Lagoo. If you ask us what’s in a name, we would say talent, talent, and only talent!

2. Soft corner for acting

Reema developed an interest in acting early on in her career thanks to her mother Mandakini Bhadbhade, who was also a noted Marathi theatre actress. She began testing her acting skills right after high school and started working in Marathi theatre. Reema kickstarted her career with Ti Phularani, an adaptation of the classic drama My Fair Lady.

3. Playing a mother to Salman Khan who was only 7 years younger to her

After working as a child artist in a couple of films, Reema got her big break with Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak in 1988. However, she got recognised only with Maine Pyar Kiya where she played the role of Salman Khan’s mother who was only 7 years younger to her. Thereafter, she became the quintessential Bollywood mother who was praised for pulling off the characters effortlessly.

4. Becoming a household name on TV

Reema didn’t limit herself only to the silver screen but tried her hand at TV as well. She became equally popular in the digital medium and got immortalised with her roles in iconic sitcoms of the 90s like Shrimaan Shrimati and Tu Tu Main Main. She also featured in Mahesh Bhatt’s Naamkarann which was the last ever role she played in her life.

5. Recognition for her contribution to cinema

The actress has been conferred upon several awards in her starlit career. She received the Maharashtra State Award for Best Actress for her performance in the film Reshamgaath released in 2002. Reema has bagged 4 Filmfare Awards for various other roles. Recognising her contribution to Marathi cinema, she was also awarded the V. Shantaram Award by the Government of Maharashtra.
