RRR: ZEE5 And Netflix Acquire Streaming Rights Of SS Rajamouli’s Magnum Opus

As fans patiently wait for director SS Rajamouli’s much-awaited magnum opus RRR, the makers have announced that the digital rights of the much-hyped movie have been acquired by ZEE5 and Netflix. According to the makers, RRR will first make its theatrical release on 13 October in theatres across India. After its theatrical run, the film will stream on the OTT platforms in various languages including English, Portuguese, Turkish, Spanish, and Korean. The movie featuring Jr. NTR and Ram Charan in lead roles is set to be the director’s most ambitious project.
The news about the film’s digital rights was first revealed by the producers on Twitter. The makers revealed that ZEE5 has secured the digital rights of the movie for Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada versions, while its competitor Netflix will stream the movie in Hindi, English, Portuguese, Korean, Turkish, and Spanish. It was also revealed that the Zee Network has gotten the satellite rights of the Hindi version of RRR, while the Star India network won the television rights of the film’s Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada versions.

According to reports, the digital and satellite rights of RRR was acquired by Zee Networks for a whopping amount of Rs 300 crore. However, the filmmakers haven’t officially confirmed the size of the deal. RRR is currently in the post-production stage and is expecting to hit theatres by October. The filmmakers who resumed shooting in January this year, after the first wave of the coronavirus, hopes to release the movie before the third wave of COVID-19 hits the country.

RRR is set around a fictional story loosely based on the struggles of Telugu tribal leaders Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem, who will be played by Ram Charan, Jr NTR respectively. The film directed by the hitmaker Rajamouli also features Bollywood actors Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn in pivotal roles.
