It’s all settled between Scarlett Johansson and Marvel Cinematic Union Star and Disney. The dispute has been resolved between Walt Disney and Johansson over the film “Black Widow”. She had sued Marvel Cinematic Union star and Disney two months ago. She had accused Disney+ of breaching her contract when it offered the movie on its OTT platform while it was still showing in cinemas.
Black Widow was released simultaneously on 9 July in theatres and via Disney+.
The actor was reportedly promised a theatrical release for “Black Widow” by Marvel Studios.
The statement released by Alan Bergman, content chairman for Disney Studios, said “I’m very pleased that we have been able to come to a mutual agreement with Scarlett Johansson regarding ‘Black Widow’.”
According to Johansson, the move meant that she was deprived of potential earnings.
The tiff between the two got a lot of attention in the press. The actress got a lot of support from the industry for speaking out.
“Black Widow” has earned $379 million at the worldwide box office to date on Disney+ Premier Access for an additional $30.
The leading actress also released a statement on the development which said, “I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve done together over the years and have greatly enjoyed my creative relationship with the team.”
With this lawsuit resolved, the two are moving ahead with “Tower of Terror”. Disney announced a new film version of Tower of Terror with Johansson earlier this year but after the actress sued the platform, there was no clarity on the issue.
Johansson featured on Forbes magazine’s list of the world’s highest-paid actresses in 2018 and 2019. Johansson debuted in 1996 with “Manny and Lo”.
Johansson’s roles in Lost in Translation and Girl with a Pearl Earring proved her mettle in acting.
Johansson received her first two Academy Award nominations for Best actress and Best Supporting Actress in Marriage Story and Jojo Rabbit, respectively.
