From Mollywood celebrities to ‘memers’, Rajini Chandy’s latest photoshoot has raised a few eyebrows and become the talk of the town. The 69-year-old actress, who is generally seen in elegant sarees, recently shared pictures from a photoshoot in which she was seen decked in long dresses, a pair of distressed jeans, and a short denim dress. The photos instantly went viral, bringing in a large amount of criticism along with the praises.

Rajini recently collaborated with a young photographer with an aim to break the stereotypes pertaining to old age. The pictures, featuring her in trendy clothes, had her flashing a warm smile. While many appreciated how her age was no barrier to her zeal for life, all the netizens weren’t kind to her, and trolled her choice of clothes.

Trolled by many for her new transformation, Rajini’s “bold and beautiful” statement soon made headlines. Through trolled, the photoshoot done by photographer Athira Joy has also won a large support online. Celebrities including director Omar Lulu have come forward to talk against the hate she got for her choice of clothes.

Filmmaker Omar Lulu extended his support for the actress by posting some of Rajini Chandy’s throwback pics from decades ago. The actress in his post can be seen pulling off bikinis and other stylish costumes. “To those who said ‘what’s up with her at this age,’ the throwback photos are major blows to you, left, right, and centre,” Omar wrote, while humorously picking on the point that her current ‘trolls’ weren’t even born when she tried on her first bikinis.

Reacting to the online hate, Rajini released a video on her social media. “With this photoshoot, I wanted to prove to the old housewives like me that there is enough charm left in them. Life is short, and I urge people to love more freely and enjoy. I have been enjoying my life since I was young and everything that’s happening now is not new to me,” she said.

Rajini made her acting debut in 2016 through Jude Anthany Joseph’s Oru Muthassi Gadha. The actress, who was 65 back then, became an instant favourite to many with her quirky characteristics and hysterical laughs. She was seen in two more films since then, and has an unnamed project lined this year.
