Shahid Kapoor announces the release date of his sports drama, Jersey!

It’s good news for Shahid Kapoor and cricket fans as his upcoming sports drama, Jersey, will come to theatres on November 5. The Haider actor took to his Instagram account to announce the release date of his next. The actor will be seen playing a cricketer in what is set to be a Diwali release. Making the announcement, he shared a location still of him in white cricket uniform. Interesting is the fact that the announcement came as the India- Australia test series was going on.

“JERSEY releasing in theatres this DIWALI 5th November 2021. The triumph of the human spirit. A journey I am so very proud of. This one’s for the TEAM ….” he captioned his picture.

The sports drama directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri is a Hindi remake of a superhit Telugu movie of the same name. The original released in 2019 was also directed by the same director. The story which revolves around a talented but failed cricketer, will see Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur share screen space. The failed cricketer nakes a comeback in his late thirties to play for the national team is what forms the gist of the story.

The original Telugu film starred Tollywood actors Nani and Shraddha Srinath as the primary characters. They will be replaced by Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur in this upcoming Hindi adaptation. The film will also feature Shahid’s actor father Pankaj Kapur.

Earlier, the film had hit headlines as Shahid Kapoor suffered an injury during the shooting in Chandigarh. The actor who informed that he was hit by the ball in the nets while practising, also thanked his fans for their concern. “Thank you for all the concern. Yes, I have got a few stitches but am recovering fast. Jersey has taken a little bit of my blood but a script this good deserves that in the least. Have a good one you all. Keep it real. Make it count. Spread the love. Humanity above all,” Shahid Kapoor had tweeted regarding the incident.
