Firstly, do you know the meaning of shukranu? That’s the question you need to ask yourself before you go ahead! Shukranu is a ZEE5 Original emotional comedy film based on the forced mass sterilisation drive, during ‘The Emergency’ in India issued by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. In 1975, this population control campaign left no Indian man unaffected. One such victim is played by Divyendu Sharma, along with co-stars Shweta Prasad Basu and Sheetal Thakur. The film is set to release on Valentine’s Day, 14 February 2020 and its trailer officially released on 3 February 2020. Have a hearty laugh watching the trailer!

Watch the trailer of Shukranu here:

The video opens with the voice-over of Vijay Raaz, narrating that after parmanu (atom) and kitanu (germs), the next deadly danger on the face of India is shukranu (sperm). So now you know the meaning! It urges the audience to also get a nasbandi (vasectomy) done, just like Inder, essayed by Divyendu Sharma who gets married to Reema, played by Shweta Basu Prasad.

On their suhaag raat (first wedding night), when Inder doesn’t make any move, Reema makes an attempt to seduce him, but Inder is insecure about his inability to have sex. The entire neighbourhood becomes aware of his impotency and tries to give him solutions to his “problem”. Then enters the third angle of this love triangle, Sheetal Thakur’s character, Akriti. When things go south between Inder and Reema, news breaks out that he is going to become a father! Disclaiming the unborn child, he announces that he is sterile!

Shukranu Poster

Inspired by true events but having a fictional approach, the film is based in the 70s. Thus, the actresses’ makeup and hair resemble Sharmila Tagore from the retro era. The trailer has an underlying humour to Inder’s pain and tragedy. #PyaarKiKatiPatang is the apt tagline for the film as it depicts an emotional story but with a hysterical take. The film, produced by Reliance Entertainment and directed by Bishnu Dev Halder, is sure to have you in stitches!

Watch out for Shukranu on 14 February 2020 exclusively on ZEE5 Originals.
