Actress Sonali Bendre is all set to make her OTT debut with ZEE5 Original The Broken News. Making her much-awaited comeback, the actress has donned an impressive avatar as a journalist in the web series. Based on the popular British series The Press, the web series dives into corruption and politics existing in the media world and engages the audience with facts and behind-the-scenes on how news stories are made.

With excellent direction from ace Vinay Waikul and featuring a talented star cast of Sonali Bendre, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Shriya Pilgaonkar, the series gives a dramatic take on the reality of the news world. Set to release on June 10th on ZEE5, the show sees a tug of war between two journalists of rival news channels having opposing principles. Journalist and editor-in-chief Amina Quereshi working with Bharati Channel believes in delivering facts and wants to make the news channel a credible source of information. On the other hand, Jaideep Ahlawat’s nuanced character, Dipankar Sanyal, of Josh 24/7 believes in selling sensational news stories. Produced by BBC Studios, the trailer of the series was launched on May 27th and has received much appreciation for its brave concept and engaging narrative. By tackling the real-world challenge of ethical journalism, the show also sees the struggles of a young journalist, played by Shriya Pilgoankar, to find a balance between the two ends of extreme ideologies. It also dives deep into how the pressure of delivering never-ending ‘Breaking news’ can take a toll on journalists and lead to bad politics.

In a statement, Sonali Bendre commented that she was hooked to the British series Press and could not have gotten a better opportunity to make her debut in the OTT world than with The Broken News. She also said ‘I connected with the concept as soon as I heard it as it is relevant in our news-obsessed world. My amazing co-stars, Jaideep Ahlawat and Shriya Pilgaonkar made my comeback experience special. I am excited to share what we have created.’

Jaideep Ahlawat also added ‘I love exploring nuanced and complicated characters, and Dipankar Sanyal is one such dream character. Also, it is a pleasure collaborating with ZEE5 again. I am certain that the show will make a strong impression on the audience.’

Shriya Pilgoankar also talked exclusively, commenting that ‘The show speaks about the honest scenario behind every news and how it is made. It is entertaining to see the healthy argument between her character and her editor. The suspense, drama, and thrills will be definitely loved by the fans.’
