Sunflower: Meet The Cast Of This Rib-tickling Crime-Comedy!

A few months ago, ZEE5 announced a new addition to its list of exceptional Originals web series Sunflower. Directed by Rahul Sengupta along with Vikas Bahl, who is also the writer of the show, this web series focuses on a unique genre that is Crime-Comedy. It revolves around a revenge murder in the Sunflower society that creates utter chaos in the lives of the residents there. Sunflower will be premiering on ZEE5 very soon!
We were recently introduced to the star cast of Sunflower which includes, Sunil Grover, Ranvir Shorey, Ashish Vidyarthi and Mukul Chaddha in the lead roles amongst others. Let’s take a look at some of the prominent characters of the Sunflower society:

Sonu Singh
Let’s start with our protagonist, Sonu Singh. Played by the incredible actor, Sunil Grover. Sonu is a small-town simpleton with OCD who is figuring out his life in the big, bad city of Mumbai. He’s the prime suspect of the murder that has been committed in the Sunflower society. Sonu often lands himself in trouble, and oblivious to the fact that he is getting himself framed, he keeps digging a deeper grave for himself. He’s a lovable fool who thinks that he’s socially cool and will definitely get the girl of his dreams, Aanchal, someday.
Sub-inspector Digendra
Bombers actor Ranvir Shorey will be seen essaying the role of Sub-inspector Digendra who single-handly runs the Chembur police station. He is an honest, no-nonsense cop, with a proven track record of 98% success rate in all his cases. When he’s sent as the investigating officer to the Sunflower society, all initial evidences point at Sonu, and now his only aim is to convict him.
Dilip Iyer
Portrayed by veteran actor, Ashish Vidyarthi, Dilip Iyer is the high and mighty secretary of the Sunflower Society. He’s a self-obsessed person who often breaks into long speeches stating how the image of his beloved society is deteriorating and how he can single-handedly improve the situation if he’s assigned as the society chairman.
Mr Ahuja
Mukul Chadda essays the role of the temperamental Mr Ahuja. He lives with his wife and son and has a long-standing tiff with his next-door neighbour, Mr Sharma, who gets murdered.
Constable Tambe
Girish Kulkarni’s constable Tambe is Sub-inspector Digendra’s main man. Although he looks a little comical, Tambe has a keen sense of observation and above-average intelligence which makes him the perfect partner for Digendra. In fact, in a few instances, he even proves to be smarter and more alert than Digendra.
Devyanti
Devyanti played by Shonali Nagrani is a young girl who hails from Punjab. She’s married to the son of Punjab’s Textile Minister. Devyanti runs away from her life back in Punjab and comes to Mumbai to fulfil her lifelong dream of becoming a playback singer in Bollywood. She is a sincere and disciplined girl who along with her wild roommate, Justina have recently shifted to the Sunflower society amid the murder investigation.
Mrs Iyer
Dilip Iyer’s wife Mrs Iyer is a typical dotting Indian wife, who blindly follows everything her husband says. Essayed by Sonal Jha. Mrs Iyer’s character doesn’t have a mind of her own and is often seen following her husband’s footsteps. She thinks Dilip is the ideal candidate to become the society chairman and shows her full support in this. Mrs Iyer has a pretty uneventful life except for the idea that her rebellious daughter might be gay.
Apart from these, there are several other significant characters in the series which includes, Mrs Ahuja, Mr Ahuja’s wife, Robert Ahuja, their 9-year-old son, Mr Sharma our murder victim, and many more. Devyanti’s roommate Justina is one such character. She’s a professionally successful woman, despite being a complete wild child. Dileep’s daughter is also an important character as her sexual orientation becomes a matter of concern for her parents.
Apart from the Sunflower society, the show also features interesting characters from Sonu’s office, such as his crush, Aanchal who is the quintessential office crush. Unaware of Sonu’s feelings, she doesn’t even look at him. On the other hand, Apoorva, Sonu’s immediate senior is a typical corporate head who always takes credit for Sonu’s work.
