Superstar Rajinikanth To Be Honoured With The 51st Dadasaheb Phalke Award

The Central Government has announced that South Indian actor Rajnikanth will be presented with the highest film honour in the country, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his “outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema”.

Anybody who loves Indian Masala films has at least watched one Rajinikanth film in their life. While many prefer watching the dubbed versions to understand the film better, a large chunk of the audience watches Rajinikanth films in its native language. Even at the age of 70, the Thalaiva continues to entertain the audience with his exceptional performances. Recently, it was announced by the Central Government of India that Rajinikanth will be honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

A jury of 5 members have unanimously voted for Rajinikanth to be the receiver of this year’s Dadasaheb Phalke Award. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is the country’s biggest film honour. It’s named after Dadasaheb Phalke, the Father of Indian Cinema. Talking about the same, the Information and Broadcasting Minister, Prakash Javadekar, while addressing the media said, “108 years ago, Dadasaheb created the first Indian film called, Raja Harishchandra. After that, there has always been growth, both horizontal and vertical.”

Javadekar also talked about Indian Cinema going Global. He said, “Indian Cinema has made impression around the world and has already become a huge part of world cinema. And this is a huge good news for everyone in the film world and otherwise.” He also added how Rajinikanth has been working in the film industry for almost 50 years and totally deserves this honour.
