Veteran actress Surekha Sikri passed away on July 16, 2021, at the age of 76 due to cardiac arrest in Mumbai. The loss of this exceptional actress was mourned by the industry and her fans alike. Born on April 19, 1945, Sikri belonged to Uttar Pradesh, although she spent most of her childhood in Almora and Nainital. A graduate from the National School of Drama, she also worked with the NSD Repertory Company for over a decade before shifting to Mumbai. She made her Bollywood debut with the character Meera in ‘Kissa Kursi Ka’ and then went on to do numerous hit films in the industry.

The actress is not just remembered for her performance as a young star in Bollywood films, but also as the old matriarch in the Hindi TV show, ‘Balika Vadhu’. Her character of Dadi Sa in the show earned her a lot of love and appreciation from fans and critics alike. The actress also won several awards for the same.

The veteran actress has received several awards and accolades, including three National Film Awards and a Filmfare Award. She is also the recipient of the 1989 Sangeet Natak Akademi Award. The actress was highly appreciated for her role in the 2018 film ‘Badhaai Ho’. However, the last project she featured in is the Netflix anthology horror series, ‘Ghost Stories’.
