It’s been a complete year since Bollywood lost one of the most special gems it had that is Sushant Singh Rajput. The death of this talented actor not only shocked the industry but the entire world. Sushant aka SSR as he was fondly called, had touched people hearts in many ways, whether it was through his exceptional acting, his humble personality or his social media interactions. Today on his first death anniversary let’s remember some of Sushant Singh Rajput best moments.

 

Early life and education

Sushant Singh Rajput was born to Krishna Kumar Singh and Usha Singh, on January 21, 1986, in Patna, Bihar. He had four sisters and was the youngest among his siblings. Thus, SSR was really pampered in his family. Unfortunately, the actor lost his mother at the tender age of 16. Later, he shifted with his family to Delhi and completed his education there.

From engineering to acting

SSR was pursuing Mechanical Engineering despite his disinterest, only because his family wanted him to. According to the actor, he always wanted to become an astronaut or an airforce pilot. His love for Shah Rukh Khan also intrigued him about the world of Bollywood. During his engineering course, Sushant enrolled himself in Shiamak Davar’s dance classes as well as Barry John’s theatre academy.

Before getting his big break, Sushant worked as a background dancer on many awards shows including IIFA and performed in films songs such as Hrithik Roshan’s Dhoom title song. Later, the actor shifted to Mumbai and joined Nadira Babbar’s theatre group called the Ekjute. He relentlessly worked there for around two and a half years.

Dream TV debut

In 2008, although a small role, SSR scored his first work in a Balaji Telefilm show, Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil. Impressed by his passion and talent, Ekta Kapoor cast him in her next, Pavitra Rishta, as the lead actor. Sushant then shot to fame and quickly became a known name in the television industry. The show not only made him a fan favourite but also helped him meet Ankita Lokhande. The actor even proposed to her on the dance reality show, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa.

Films, linkups, stardom and more

While the TV stardom was all good, Sushant Singh Rajput had bigger dreams. He quit Pavitra Rishta to work in Bollywood. Sushant got his first Bollywood debut with Mukesh Chhabra casting him for Kai Po Che! His performance was highly appreciated and Sushant went on to work in many films such as Shuddh Desi Romance, PK and Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!

SSR rose to stardom with his incredible performance portraying the caption cool in M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story. He then worked in many memorable movies such as Raabta, Kedarnath, Sonchiriya, and Chhichhore. Apart from his work, his linkups with co-actors also started making headlines. After his breakup with Ankita Lokhande, Sushant’s name was linked with Kriti Sanon, Sara Ali Khan and Rhea Chakraborty.

Untimely demise and investigation

On June 14, 2020, the world was hit with the grave news of Sushant Singh Rajput‘s death. According to reports, the actor had hanged himself in his apartment in Bandra. While police went ahead with the suicide angle, SSR‘s fans and family couldn’t believe the actor could do such a thing. After a lot of efforts, his case was assigned to CBI.

Some revelations also lead to the NCB being involved in the case. Many including Sushant’s girlfriend, Rhea, her brother Showik, Sushant’s friend and roommate Siddharth Pithani were taken into custody in relation to the case. Currently, both CBI and NCB is investigating the actor’s death. Meanwhile, a film has been made on the actor’s life and death, which has received a green signal from Delhi HC, despite SSR‘s father’s pleas.
