2020 saw many controversies surrounding Bollywood. Here, we have listed the top five shocking events that left everyone astonished.

The year 2020 was one of the most tumultuous years that Bollywood industry has ever faced. Be it the shocking demise of prolific actors including Irrfan Khan, Rishi Kapoor, Sushant Singh Rajput or the shocking news surrounding nepotism and drug nexus, 2020 will forever be the year of controversies that engulfed B-town. Now, as the year is coming to an end, we list down the five major controversies that shook one and all.

1) Nepotism

After the untimely death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, fans of the star blamed nepotism as one of the main reasons for his demise. The agitation amongst netizens increased so much that all the star kids had to bear its brunt. Alia Bhatt starrer Sadak 2 became the most targeted movie of the year to receive negative reactions from the viewers. Even Janhvi Kapoor starrer Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl and Ananya Panday’s Khaali Peeli received horrible responses from audiences.

2) Drugs

The year 2020 also unravelled the Bollywood drug nexus after the Narcotics Control Bureau began their investigation in the SSR death probe. Rhea Chakraborty, after failing her drug test, was made to serve a brief time in prison. Along with it, popular actor Deepika Padukone’s drug chat was also leaked online. Post which, she was called by the NCB for investigation. Summons were also generated for Shradhha Kapoor, Sara Ali Khan, Rakul Preet Singh, and other popular names. NCB also raided the house of famous personalities like Firoz Nadiadwala, Arjun Rampal, and Bharati Singh.

3) Boycott Bollywood Trend

The death of Sushant Singh Rajput also gave rise to trends like Boycott Bollywood on social media. This effort by netizens came after the prominent Bollywood stars continued to remain silent in the SSR death probe. The Khans of the Bollywood were the main target, as they are considered to be ruling the acting world. However, after watching them stay tight-lipped, furious fans started trending the hashtag Boycott Bollywood on Twitter.

4) Kangana Ranaut vs The industry

Kangana Ranaut emerged as the flag-bearer against Nepotism and Bollywood mafia. She also went on to describe her experience about how she got introduced and addicted to drugs in the industry. Moreover, she went on to name many stars who indulge with drugs on a daily basis which left the entire industry divided. Veteran actor Jaya Bachchan, superstar Akshay Kumar and several others defended the industry.

5) Deepika Padukone’s appearance at the JNU campus

It was back in the month of January when Deepika Padukone reached Delhi to promote her movie Chhapaak. During this time, the student’s protest at the JNU campus had hit the major headlines in the country. Amidst this, Deepika Padukone reached the JNU campus to extend support to the students. However, her move was considered a selfish tactic to promote her film.
