For Taapsee Pannu, the project which she said is a special film is the culmination of a subject that caught her fancy since she heard its one-liner story in Chennai.

This October 15, Zee5, India’s leading streaming platform, is all set to release Rashmi Rocket starring the Thappad girl Taapsee Pannu. An announcement by Manish Kalra, chief business officer, Zee5India to this effect, has brought a lot of cheer to the legions of Pannu fans.

Kalra said Rashmi Rocket depicts grit and a never-say-die attitude. The film characterises the story of a woman who carves a niche for herself in a male-dominated arena, Manish Kalra added. For Taapsee Pannu, the project which she said is a special film is the culmination of a subject that caught her fancy since she heard its one-liner story in Chennai.

Taapsee Pannu confided that producers and directors have hitherto approached her with a project only when their part of the deal was ready and they found her a suitable fit for the same. However, in the case of Rashmi Rocket, it is a case of seeing a one-liner becoming a full-length film, which the actor said she has not experienced before. Taapsee Pannu plays the role of a talented athlete in this film that is set in Kutch, Gujarat.

Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP with Neha Anand and Pranjal Khandhdiya of Mango People Media are the producers of this film. The director is Akarsh Khurana of the Irrfan Khan starrer Karwaan and the story is based on an original tale that is written by Nanda Periyaswamy. Aniruddha Guha and Kanika Dhillon have collaborated with Periyaswamy in penning the story.

While ‘Rocket’ (Taapsee Pannu) follows the story of an athlete who can realise her dream to become a professional athlete, it is also a reflection of the various hurdles that ‘Rocket’ faces in reaching the finish line. A seemingly simple athletic contest becomes an individual’s battle for respect, honour and one’s identity, according to the gist of the film that Zee5 has shared.

Rashmi Rocket is not merely the journey of an athlete, but the human drama that unfolds in her life. This makes the film that much more layered and ‘hatke’ from other routine athlete stories, says Ronnie Screwvala. The film is an attempt to address misogyny that is present in sports and talks about the various hurdles that produce a medal, says Pranjal Khandhdiya. The film has Supriya Pathak, Abhishek Banerjee, Priyanshu Painyuli, and Supriya Pilgaonkar playing able foil to the central character.
