Divyendu is an actor who has created a space for himself in Bollywood and is slowly but steadily expanding it. The actor got this space after many struggles and has earned his recognition through years of hard work. Let’s take a look at this journey from Delhi to Munna Tripathi.
Divyendu, during his schooling, used to take part in cultural and extracurricular activities actively. He preferred doing plays in school instead of studies. So much so that he scored only 49% in his tenth standard. He went for humanities after that and found his interest in political science. His score of 84% in the twelfth standard surprised his family and even him.
During his graduation, too, he spent most of his time being in the theatre and drama society instead of sitting in classrooms. During this period of performing on stage, he had decided to become an actor.
Divyendu came to Mumbai and started working to achieve his goal. He had to endure a lot of rejections when he started giving auditions. But instead of losing heart, he considered auditions a place to learn as well. He had to take up the job of organizing private events during his struggle days to manage to feed himself a meal of 32 bucks.
Divyendu also joined a theatre club called Players for self-grooming. After a string of rejections and financial struggles of three years, he started getting a few commercials or minor roles like in Aaja Nachle before he finally got his break in Pyar Ka Punchnama as Liquid.
You might not know that Divyendu’s inspiration for acting is Farooq Sheikh. He has studiously watched all his movies. He is also why Divyendu signed the remake of the film Chashme Baddoor without even enquiring about the script and story. He was immediately onboard and excited to get an opportunity to work with David Dhawan.
Divyendu came to Mumbai with the resolve to establish himself as a versatile actor. After Pyaar ka Punchnama, the actor could have remained comfortable in the genre of being a loudmouth. But he wanted to explore himself as an actor and play diverse roles. Therefore, he made conscious choices when signing films and series.
After that, all his movies and web series, such as Ekkees Toppon Ki Salaami, Dilliwali Zaalim Girlfriend, Fatafat, etc., have gained him recognition & appreciation for his performance.
His supporting roles in the two mainstream movies, Batti Gul Meter Chalu and Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, gave his career a turn for the better. Divyendu got more and better work offers after those movies.
By playing Munna Bhaiya, he got one thing off his bucket list - playing the role of a gangster.
Did you know he was initially given the role of Babloo while Ali was approached for Munna? Ali thought the character to be too violent and rejected it. Divyendu, on the other hand, believed that Munna is among the most interesting characters of the show. He was later given the part of Munna when makers came to know about his interest.
Divyendu enjoys a huge fan following, particularly since Mirzapur. He is often seen roaming in his jeep in open locations in the show. Crowds of people gathered around to see him act, which motivated and helped him stay in character.
His favorite characters, performances have been Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man and Robert De Niro as Travis Bickle.
You must have noticed that throughout the article, Divyendu is never mentioned with his surname Sharma. It is because, in 2019, the actor dropped his surname due to numerological reasons. He also said that he doesn’t want to look like a caste-privileged guy when caste divisions still exist. Therefore, the official name of the actor is Divyendu.
Divyendu, through his talent, hard work, and dedication, has become a well-known face of India. The actor shows a lot of promise, and he is inevitably going to etch his name among the versatile and talented actors of Bollywood in the coming time.
