BollywoodWatch out for this exciting new Bengali TV show about a woman who breaks all barriers to be a ‘dhaki,’ premiering on July 13!
The month of July looks totally lit with a host of groundbreaking new shows on the ZEE5 platform. The Zee Bangla TV serial Kadambini, which centres around the life of the titular protagonist, who was Bengal’s first female doctor, launched recently, and the ZEE5 Original thriller series Mafia will arrive this week too. The fun doesn’t end here, as the latest Bengali TV serial Jamuna Dhaki is all set to air from July 13! Zee Bangla is known for creating content which features strong women who break archaic stereotypes to forge their own path, and much like Kadambini, Jamuna Dhaki has a theme which does just that.
Watch the promo of Jamuna Dhaki right here:
The story of Jamuna Dhaki is all about Jamuna, a woman who bravely stepped in to fill in for her ailing father and picked up the dhak (drum) at an important event– and did not look back after that! Played by actor Sweta Bhattacharya, whom we have seen in Jarowar Jhumko, the protagonist Jamuna is a character who challenges societal norms to enter a domain that has usually been dominated by men. Her father, Gangapadha, is a dhaki (drummer) who plays at events like weddings and pujas. He is booked to play at a grand Durga puja in Kolkata, and despite being in poor health, is determined to honour his commitment.
Gangapadha agrees to take his daughter Jamuna along with him, and thank goodness for this, as he takes ill and collapses, but all he can think about is doing his duty as a dhaki at the puja! At this, the spunky Jamuna decides to pick up the dhak and fill in for her father– and gosh, does she do it well! Jamuna turns heads for being a woman as well as her talent, and Sangeet, the son of the family who hired them, falls in love with her. Sangeet is played by actor Rubel Das, whom we have earlier seen in the thrilling Bangla TV serial Bagh Bondi Khela.
So sit tight and get ready to be inspired by Jamuna, this spirited young woman, right from July 13!
