The Wife is the latest horror film on ZEE5, starring Gurmeet Chaudhary and Sayani Datta in the lead roles. The film revolves around the story of a couple who moves into a new apartment and begin experiencing eerie things happening with them. After the fearful events take a steep rise, the film’s intrigue and engaging factors also rise. The film also focuses on creating a fearful environment for its horror, rather than only using jumpscares. Here are 6 of the best and most frightful scenes from The Wife, which are sure to get you hooked to it.

The beginning of the haunting

When Varun (Gurmeet Chaudhary) and Arya (Sayani Datta) move into their new apartment, from their very first moment in the flat, they begin noticing the paranormal activities. The spirit haunting them initially only makes her presence felt to Arya, by doing things like making the doors open up suddenly. All the while Arya is trying to figure out what is wrong, the film maintains a sense of eerie even in its silent moments, keeping us hooked to the screen. 

Varun’s nightmare

Varun initially dismisses Arya’s concern over noticing the paranormal activities. However, one night he sees a horrific nightmare that establishes his connection with the hauntings. The nightmare, while it scares us straight, also sets up the beginning of a secret that Varun has kept hidden.

The maid’s baby

Soon after Varun and Arya move into their new home, they hire a maid for their chores. And the maid, brings her baby girl to the house, to keep an eye on her. The scene that follows, with the maid’s baby is definitely the darkest scene of the film. While Varun and Arya are not present in the house, and the maid is working, no one is keeping an eye on the baby. Soon the maid proceeds to do the laundry and sees the more hair-raising sight in the laundry room, as her baby is killed by the spirit in a gruesome way.

Professor’s encounter

Following a number of scary encounters, Arya visits Raima Das (Shweta Dadhicch), who is a professor in paranormal studies. She visits Varun and Arya’s apartment, and after a brief look-around, encounters the spirit. While it would have scared anyone out of their wits, the professor does not even bat an eye, showing her prowess in the field, and establishing her character’s strong nature.

Varun’s past story

After the professor’s visit, Varun too experiences a scary occurrence, which makes him open up to his wife about his past. Varun’s story of his childhood trauma consists of some severely ghastly occult practices, which are sure to make you uncomfortable and create a sense of unsettling.

Exorcism

To evade the spirits haunting and send her away from the mortal realm, the professor and her assistant carry out a ritual with Arya and Varun. In the ritual, Varun is sent to the other side, while the professor’s assistant (Satyender Malik) keeps chanting some powerful chants. With a lot going on, the scene delivers the powerful moments of the ritual and the exorcism very well, while also connecting Varun’s past to his present.
