Manushi stated how it was absolutely true that sanitary napkins were a necessity and not a luxury. She said that the commodity needed to be made available in the market at a very low cost to ensure every woman could afford it very easily. Talking about one of her projects, Manushi also explained how she hoped to make sanitary pads available to the poorer sections of society through it. Manushi revealed that maintaining regular menstrual hygiene is a basic practice, which can have a substantially negative impact on a woman’s life and health if not taken care of in the right way. However, Kajol had a different view on this subject.

When the popular Bollywood actress Kajol was asked about her take on the huge percentage of tax levied on sanitary napkins, she had a relatively different reaction. The actress first mentioned that she did not believe that she had ample financial expertise, especially on the subject of GST, to be able to make any statements on it. She further stated that the taxation on the sanitary pads was somewhat similar to how it was for any other commodity, such as milk and rice. Kajol then made it clear that she felt that it was simply up to the government of the country to tax the products as they saw fit.
