Throwback Thursday: 4 Episodes From Serial Ek Akasher Niche That You Will Love To Revisit

The Zee Bangla TV serial Ek Akasher Niche, which first aired on television more than 20 years ago, has amassed a tremendous fan following and remains a favourite even today! Starring an extensive cast with actors like Saswata Chatterjee, Chaiti Ghoshal, Parambrata Chattopadhyay and Swastika Mukherjee, this Bengali TV show ran for several years and crossed 1000 episodes owing to its immense popularity. Indeed, what made Ek Akasher Niche strike such a chord among viewers was its inimitable quality of relatability. The serial revolved around the Dasgupta household, a large bustling joint family, of which each character was written and portrayed beautifully and most importantly– realistically. 1. Setting The Stage

The very first episode from Ek Akasher Niche is the one that set the stage for what was to come. It introduced the characters in the show that we became so familiar with, laid down a foundation, and created the environment that defined the essence of this classic Bangla TV serial. We meet the Dasgupta family and get absorbed into their lives, each member with their various interests and concerns. From Amma (played by Sumitra Mukherjee), the matriarch from the oldest generation, to her youngest grandchildren, Ek Akasher Niche held us enthralled across all age groups. In this episode, the family is getting ready for Chhutki aka Gayatri’s (played by Kamalika Banerjee) impending wedding.

2. Domestic Bliss

Amma confronts her son Atul about the mysterious stranger who had come to visit him at home. She asks him if he is in any trouble, and he avoids opening up to her. Of course, one can’t fool Amma, and she calls him out right away and comforts him. Meanwhile, we also get to see the camaraderie between the Dasgupta brothers and their wives and sisters-in-law. Akash Dasgupta and Nandini have not been married for long, and the dynamics of their relationship are quite touching at this point.

3. Slices From Life

In this episode, we get to experience a heartrending musical performance from Madhabi (Chaiti Ghoshal), who is a professional singer (apart from being a full-time mother to two children and a wife). Actor Kaushik Sen also plays the role of a doctor at Akash’s hospital, and he makes an appearance here. Gayatri announces her pregnancy to her husband Shaibal (Shantilal Mukherjee) and is extremely apprehensive of his reaction, but he receives the news warmly.

4. Wedding Bells Chime

Pakhi (Koneenica Banerjee) is getting married, and the women in the Dasgupta family are going to give her a marvellous send-off. In this episode, the house is abuzz with the wedding preparations and Pakhi’s gaye holud ceremony. It is an emotional time which is also incredibly full of fun and laughter!
