Throwback: When Priyanka Chopra Revealed The Challenge She Faced While Playing Mary Kom

Actress Priyanka Chopra, who is now a global star, has done many blockbuster films in her illustrious career. Fans eagerly wait for her new projects to be out, and reminisce over her old projects. One of her most popular films of all time, Mary Kom, remains a fan favourite even today. The film was released in 2014 in which Priyanka played the titular role of Indian boxer Mary Kom.

Recently a video of Priyanka talking about the film has surfaced on the internet and the fans are loving it. In the video, she says, “I had to learn boxing two times because the film was shot in two big schedules. I had to train as well…since I opted to do a biopic of course I had to do it properly..”

She also said that a majority of the film was picked up from real-life instances of Mary. “For me, the most difficult thing was to bring about her personality and how she must have been in scenes like that. Some of the film if you watch is documented footage…”

She further added, “there is a scene of Mary as a mother and her conflict, and everything else that happens to her. For me, this is something I have not experienced, I have not had children so that was a really hard moment for me to be a fighter, a mother, a homemaker, and to be able to balance that is one of the women’s most difficult roles. So, to bring that to the fore was a very big challenge..”

Priyanka also said that for her, Mary’s story is that of a small-town girl and a farmer’s daughter who had a difficult time pursuing sports. But, she defeated the odds and came up with her hard work. “The thing that touched me the most about her (Mary Kom) is how she is such a real person..”
