Cyber crime has always been a fascinating subject for many filmmakers and several shows and series have been made around these topics. The new ZEE5 original horror film Unlock: The Haunted App showcases one such similar story which speaks about a scary app which grants one’s darkest wishes. The story of the film will focus on the scariest cyber crimes which also deals with the fear of losing a dear one. Unlock-The Hacked App is helmed by Debatma Mandal and will release on 13 March 2020. The film is produced by Krasnaya Corporation LLP and Horse Films LLP. There have been several controversial cyber crimes that took place in India which shocked the entire world. 1. Conmen Hacked Bengaluru Hospital’s Bank Account
A group of conmen targeted a bank account of Bengaluru hospital and took away 17 lakh rupees after cloning the official sim card. They even added unknown members as online banking beneficiaries. Spandana Nursing Home authorities lodged a police complaint and police are investigating the case. The online fraud came into limelight on February 19, 2020, after an official postpaid cellphone number attached to a bank account went defunct. “On February 14, the Airtel sim was suddenly inactive with incoming and outgoing calls being barred. We desperately contacted the Airtel helpline requesting the service be restored but in vain. After repeated efforts from us — a representative even visited the Airtel kiosk — the sim was finally functional on February 20,” a senior executive from Spandana Nursing Home told to a portal.
2. UIDAI Aadhaar Software Hacked
In 2018, UIDAI revealed that around 210 Indian Government websites had leaked Aadhaar details of people which had 1.1 billion Indian Aadhar cardholder details. The entire data related to UIDAI leaked including Aadhaar, PAN and mobile numbers, bank account numbers, IFSC codes and personal information of all cardholders. Not just that there were a group of people who were selling Aadhaar information of any person for Rs.500 over Whatsapp and Aadhar’s xerox in Rs.300.
3. ATM System Hacked
In 2018 there was a cyber attack on Canara bank ATM and 20 lakh rupees were taken from various bank accounts. The cyber attackers had ATM details of more than 300 users which they used for wiping the money off.
4. Cosmos Bank Cyber Attack
A scary cyber crime case happened in Pune. Cosmos Bank’s scam shook the entire world as hackers wiped off Rs.94.42 crore. The hackers took ATM details of every cardholder and immediately after the incident the hacker’s gang withdrew the amount after they were informed.
5. SIM Swap Scam
SIM swap Scam was one of the most daring cyber crime attacks which were executed by two hackers from Navi Mumbai. The gang was arrested for transferring 4 crore rupees from various bank accounts in 2018. The gang took the information of the users by giving them fake SIM cards and also gave them fake documents. They further carried the transaction online and even targeted high tech companies but got jailed.
