Urmila Matondkar On Why She Joined The Shiv Sena
Trending NewsUrmila Matondkar said that she believes in the Uddhav Thackeray government’s capability, while clarifying that her loss during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections while in Congress has nothing to do with her shifting to the Shiv Sena
Actor turned politician Urmila Matondkar has joined the Shiv Sena after her 15-month stint with the Congress party previously. She was inducted to the Maharashtrian political outfit through a small ceremony at Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s residence yesterday.
The popular yesteryear’s actress spoke to a channel exclusively about her reasons to join the Shiv Sena, her grief with Congress and her future plans. Justifying her shift from a supposed secularism promoting Congress to the Hindutva propagating Shiv Sena, Matondkar said that she is a proud Hindu but believes in respecting every other caste and religion. She stated that the Thackeray family also works for the benefit of the Hindus as well as the other communities. Praising the Maharashtra government’s efforts in the last one year, the Rangeela star said that the administration did a commendable job in what can be termed as the toughest year with the raging pandemic.
On being asked if she is an opportunist considering she shifted to the ruling state government after she got a Member of Legislative Council (MLC) ticket, she clarified that her former political outfit had also given her an MLC ticket. She says she, however, discontinued her association with them due to petty internal matters.
Urmila also spoke about her short but effective 28-day campaigning during the Lok Sabha polls in 2019. She further added that she will continue to work at the grassroot level with the Shiv Sainiks and resume her role as a 24/7 politician.
Last, the 46-year-old film star suspended rumours of her being rewarded a ticket by the Uddhav government due to her anti-Kangana Ranaut stance. When the Queen actress was at war with the state governance over several issues including the Sushant Singh Rajput case, her office demolition and her equating Mumbai with the India-Pakistan border, Urmila had openly supported Shiv Sena.
