A state of gloom took over the B-town as veteran actor Surekha Sikri breathed her last on Friday morning. Aged 75, the actor passed away following a cardiac arrest. Her manager confirmed the news. In a statement issued to the press, it was shared that Sikri had been suffering from complications related to her second brain stroke. Several Bollywood actors mourned the loss while paying their last respects to the veteran star.
“Three-time national award-winning actress, Surekha Sikri has passed away following a cardiac arrest earlier this morning at the age of 75. She had been suffering from complications arising from a second brain stroke,” read the official statement. Following the treatment, she was surrounded by her family and caregivers. Also, the manager added that the Sikri family needs “privacy” at this time. As soon as the news broke, condolences started pouring in from all across the B-town.
Manoj Bajpayee, Pooja Bhatt, Divya Dutt, and few others offered their condolences to the family. Also, many actors credited Surekha Sikri for being their inspiration in the film industry. The veteran actor’s prolific career spanned some noteworthy works in the arena of theatres, television, and films. After making her film debut in the late 70s, there was no stopping for Sikri.
While she ruled the hearts of the fans in 80s parallel cinema, her renowned daily soap ‘Balika Vadhu’ made her a household name. Surekha Sikri bagged three national awards for films including Tamas (1988), Mammo (1995), and Badhaai Ho (2018). The actor became the highlight of many awards shows in 2018 for her ultimate dedication to cinema. And her last screen appearance was in the anthology series ‘Ghost Stories’.
Post-2018, Sikri’s health deteriorated after two strokes and she was ailing for months.
