Veteran actress Minoo Mumtaz passes away due to Cancer In Canada

Bollywood’s veteran actress Minoo Mumtaz who has given several classical hits has passed away at the age of 80 battling cancer. Veteran actress-dancer Minoo Mumtaz, the sister of celebrated comedian-filmmaker Mehmood, has died in Toronto, Canada. Minoo Mumtaz, who was in her 80s, passed away on Friday night at a city hospital.

The news was confirmed by her nephew Naushad who said that since she was old, 80 plus, there wasn’t much to be done. She was one of the loveliest people he had ever met. Her younger brother’s wife also confirmed to the leading news portal that the late actress was diagnosed with cancer a few days ago but the reason behind her death wasn’t cancer but another health issue. She also said that Minoo Mumtaz would meet her contemporaries, like veteran actor Saira Banu, whenever she would visit India.

Born to father Mumtaz Ali, a dancer and actress in films in the 1940s, and mother Latifunissa Begum, Minoo Mumtaz was one of four daughters and four sons. Malikunnisa is the sister of legendary comedian Mehmood Ali. She was renamed Minoo by the inimitable Meena Kumari, who was also Mehmood’s sister-in-law.

The late actress Minoo Mumtaz made her debut with Sakhi Hateem” and appeared in a popular song Jab raat hai aisi matwali from Mughal-E-Azam. She has appeared in many hit films like Sahib Biwi Aur Ghulam, Chaudhavin Ka Chand, Howrah Bridge, Kaagaz Ke Phool.

Some of her other notable works include films like Reshmi salwar kurta jali ka from Naya Daur, Sakhiya aaj mujhe neend nahin from Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam, Boojh mera kya maam re from CID.
