Ashok Selvan is not only a versatile actor but also is very fond of playing traditional instruments. His recent video while playing ‘Parai’ garnered a lot of attention on the internet.

Ashok Selvan, who dipped his toes in the world of acting in 2012 with Billa II, has garnered massive attention from entertainment buffs for his unique choices of roles. He has been a part of several movies and has created a niche for himself in the Tamil industry. Ashok was last seen in the hit movie, Oh My Kadavule, alongside Ritika Singh and Vani Bhojan, and has several other outings in the pipeline. Oh My Kadavule grabbed rave reviews and was also screened at film festivals. The actor was recently shooting for his upcoming venture and amid the shot, he took some time off and played the Parai, a medium-sized, frame drum which is considered to be the oldest drums used in India and mainly in Tamil Nadu. Here’s what he had to say about it.

Ashok mentioned that while he was busy, in between the shots, he found a Parai lying in a corner. He added that the excitement and happiness Parai brings is unexplainable. Ashok further wrote, “Playing after so long, lost touch.. so adhunaala kindly Ignore my mistakes asaan.” In no time, his video went viral and fans rushed to drop comments on it. Vishnupriya Ravi, Samyukta Hornad, among others lauded his talent, whereas, a user wrote, “Wow, Ashok. I’m so glad you actors take the time off to exhibit your inner talents on sets. I’m very much elated that you’ve not forgotten your roots. Parai is considered to be as a very important instrument and I’m proud you’ve shown this to people. God bless.” Many simply swooned over his skills and dropped hearts on the post. Take a look at the video here:

On the work front, Ashok is all set to step into Mollywood withthe movie, Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham. Co-written and directed by Priyadarshan, the film will interestingly have Mohanlal playing the titular role in it. Not only this, but Selvan is all set to make his Telugu debut with the film titled Ninnila Ninnila, which also stars Nithya Menen and Ritu Varma. Speaking about his social media updates, Ashok took the internet by storm after he posted a black-and-white photo with Vijay Sethupathi, on the occasion of the latter’s birthday.

“Happy birthday my dear Sethu anna! I’ve got nothing but pure love for you. your love for people around you and your passion for cinema is always inspiring. Wishing you more and more success and health. Love you,” he wrote while sharing the post. The duo shared screen space in Oh My Kadavule and have also worked together in several other movies.
