When Saira Banu’s Relationship With Rajendra Kumar Made Headlines!

Years before tying the knot with legendary actor Dilip Kumar, actor Saira Banu made headlines for her alleged affair with Rajendra Kumar.

Way before Rajesh Khanna bagged the title of being the first superstar of Indian Cinema, an actor ruled the industry like a king. The actor not only gave hits back-to-back but also charmed his female fans. Interestingly, not only fans but many leading actresses of the 60s’ had a crush on him. But, as he was already married and father of three, they backed out. Still can’t guess? Well, we are talking about Rajendra Kumar, who rose to fame with Nargis starrer Mother India.

Interestingly, talking about his personal life, it is said that his Ayee Milan Ki Bela co-star Saira Banu had a crush on him. And, after working on three projects together, the love started blooming in between the duo. But, it did not last for long, as Saira Banu’s mother was not happy with their alliance. On the other hand, their relationship also turned out to be the talk of the town. When Saira’s mother Naseem felt that the situation is out of her control, she asked Dilip Kumar to help her out.

Later, Dilip Kumar tried to convince Saira to not take her relationship with Rajendra Kumar on the next step, but in vain. But, as the destiny had already decided to unite Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu, the duo tied the knot in 1966. For the unversed, Saira was only 22 when she married while Dilip Kumar was 44 years old.

Meanwhile, an excerpt from the book, titled Jubilee Kumar: The Life And Times Of A Superstar, can give a brief look into the relationship of Rajendra Kumar with Saira Banu. The book has quoted Kumar saying that there was some truth to the rumours about us and Saira was a lovely girl and they liked each other a lot. As per the book, Kumar always prayed that Saira would find a worthy life partner. Interestingly, the book was released last year in March.

Talking about Rajendra Kumar’s career, he marked his debut with 1950s’ release Jogan. He portrayed the lead characters in more than 80 films. However, after Rajesh Khanna’s entry in the showbiz, the graph of Rajendra Kumar’s career started falling.
