Cancer has to be one of the most dreaded words ever. While so many of us have had our near ones succumbing to it, there are people who are fighting an uphill battle with the deadly disease, with utmost willpower and courage. Actress Mamta Mohandas, who is a cancer survivor, believes that having a positive outlook beats everything in such a stage. On this World Cancer Day, let’s remember Mamta Mohandas’ inspiring battle against cancer.

Mamta was first diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a type of cancer that affects the body’s lymph nodes, in 2009. The actress was just starting off her career and was in her twenties. She began her 7-year-long battle then and was forced to take a break from films for nearly 2 years. During the same period, she also went through a divorce. It all became worse when the actress had a relapse in 2013, following a failed bone marrow transplant.

However, the actress who is known to be a brave heart didn’t give up and chose to move to the United States of America. There, she underwent continual treatment and in 2016, she was one of the firsts to be part of a clinical trial for FDA approved drug called nivolumab (Opdivo) for the treatment of patients with classical Hodgkin lymphoma. The treatment continued successfully, leading the actress to win a battle of 7 years.

While social media had a trend of ‘10-year-challenge’ going on, Mamta took the opportunity to share with her followers what she went through in the past decade. In what was an emotional post, Mamta posted a collage of her present picture and a picture of her with a shaved head and wrote about her challenging journey. The actress shared her success story of fighting the ailment, inspiring many in the process.

In 2009, the actress had a promising film career in front of her when she was diagnosed with the deadly disease. But she chose to fight and has been doing great ever since. The actress on multiple occasions has been noted talking about having a positive outlook on life.
The Neeli actress has been noted saying that she thinks about people who lost their lives because the medical treatments weren’t advanced back in their time and how lucky she was to get the best of treatments. She once even posted a picture with the nurses who took care of her during the treatment and called them the real heroes.

Currently, one of the leading names in the industry, Mamta believes that one should enjoy life instead of waiting for something like cancer to remind them what to do. The actress is now a huge fitness buff. Mamta’s social media is filled with workout and healthy food routines that she shares and urges people to follow.
