Zee5 web series “The Married Woman” attempts to break the shackles

Chances are always high that an Indian woman would be lectured on the sacrifices she needs to make for the family. She is supposed to keep her husband happy while putting her own dreams aside. In addition, she is not a good mother if she doesn’t prioritize her children before herself.

The Married Woman streaming on Zee5 brings these issues into the forefront. Based on Manju Kapur’s book, A Married Woman, this romantic drama web series by the same name has an astonishing 9.2 rating on IMDB. This is first season of the web series which went on air in March this year. The Married Woman comprises of 11 episodes.

Story line

It is a story of two women, Aastha and Peeplika and is set in 90s. The protagonist of the show is Astha who is a dutiful housewife and a mother. Peeplika, on the other hand, is an unconventional artist and remains unimpressed by normal routines of her life. Astha sets out on a journey of self-discovery and meets Peeplika enroute.

She takes some unconventional steps towards a new life by moving away from her husband to a theatre director Aijaaz Khan (Imaad Shah). He leads her to free herself from her inhibitions and acknowledge her desires, which are ignored by her family. But eventually, it is Aijaaz’s wife Peeplika who ends up in a romantic relation with Aastha.

The web series series a lot of great feedback from viewers. On IMDB, one fan wrote that he finished the web series in one sitting, praising the show’s great performances and unique premise. This is the best online series ever, according to another admirer. Some fans adore the plot, while others were surprised, but everyone adored the star cast, which coupled with the lovely background score and directing, elevates the series.

The Married Woman features prominent names from Television industry like Ridhi Dogra, Monica Dogra, Imaad Shah, Divya Seth Shah, Nadira Babbar, and Suhas Ahuja.The web series is set at the backdrop of the riots after the Babri Masjid demolition which horrified the nation.
